The Island Queen on the Ohio River to Point Pleasant had a deck collapse as it carried about 1700 passengers to the Grant Centenary. Twenty eight injured, three seriously, when the upper deck fell and caused a second collapse. Manchester band members wounded. Major Morse Hicks led emergency care. Government inspectors blamed a slipping steel I beam amid vibrations. no neglect found.

State School Aid distributed to 40 counties in Ohio
Auditor Joseph T. Tracy paid the second installment of the State Educational Equalization Fund to school districts across forty counties on April 28. The largest payment went to Athens County at 104,591.78. Portage received 91.34, with many districts receiving between 1,000 and 56,000. Clermont County listings include Tate township 808.94 and New Richmond Village 4,509.56 among others, totaling 480,666.82 for the county.

Experimental Farm Notes on Sheep and Feed Strategy
The report details a small Shropshire flock starting with 12 ewes and one ram, sales in June bringing 67.65 after costs, one ewe dying from an internal tumor, and 10 ewes remaining. Pasture seven months, fee charges, and feed costs are itemized, with soy bean hay and corn fodder used for roughage and shelled corn and bran for grain. County Rural Pupils Take Hth Grade Exam for High School Admission
Pupils from many county rural schools arrived Saturday for the eighth grade exam needed to gain high school admission. Early arrivals showed bright promising prospects as teachers accompanied them. The test was reported to be difficult.
Wool grading and Jersey cattle plans for Clermont county
Sheep men will attend a wool grading demonstration in Blanchester on May 10 at 9 am led by Mr. Smith of the Ohio Sheep and Wool Growers Association. The group acts as a large wool pool with costs around 2 to 3 cents per pound last year, and expects lower costs this year. The Jersey Cattle Club meets May 6 at Highland Farms Branch Hill to promote Mrs A Vos’s herd and a partnership with Frank Walmsley. County records note Char Rosselot’s outstanding Jersey cow producing over 50 pounds daily and near 60 pounds butter fat per cow in March.

Frosts ruin fruit crops in southern Clermont county
The fruit section notes heavy frosts and occasional ice across several mornings last week, damaging fruit and berries. Areas not yet affected are expected to be inferior and drop before maturity. Also, Harry V. Spencer of Blanchester, charged with falsifying election returns, was acquitted after a brief jury deliberation in Wilmington.
