Building project moves ahead in Batavia details emerge

Construction begins this week on a Batavia Five Cents to One Dollar Store expansion costing about 18000 dollars. The new 31 by 151 foot building will include a ground level room, a full basement, and a second floor apartment. Contractor Charles Hitt leads the project with plans for a cement block two tone glazed tile front and steam heating.

Batavia Church of Christ Holds May Revival Series

Revival services will be conducted May 12 through May 26 by Batavia Church of Christ with Rev L Edsil Dale as evangelist. Evening services start 8 p.m. at Spring and Water streets Batavia. The church marks its first anniversary since March 1945 with a remodeled building for 100 attendees. Public invited.

Clermont to Get New Bridge in Postwar Road Plan

Clermont County will receive a new bridge with two-lane approaches 2.6 miles north of Bethel as part of a $9,786,837 postwar road program extending to 84 counties. State Highway Director Perry T. Ford announced the project, awaiting Public Roads Administration approval by June 1 before bidding.

Two Enlist in Army From Batavia Post Office

Two men from Batavia apply for Regular Army enlistment through the Branch Recruiting office at the Batavia Post Office. Albert Pinkerton of Bethel and Carl Ballachino of Batavia will go to Louisville for morning physicals. Ballachino reenlists as a T-5 after serving in the ETO in World War II.

Settlement of the late Jennie Penn estate may take about a year. Property and securities are valued around 150000 dollars. Executor Eli H Speidel has filed to determine heirs and seek authority to sell. About 119 people are involved as 87 named beneficiaries face deaths reducing the pool. Mt Carmel Community Center Open House Planned

Mt Carmel community building announces an open house on Friday May 49 with Wagner's orchestra and lunch. Attendees thank Mr Koenig for painting and benches and Mr Stein for the oil stove Mabley Carew for the Coke Bar and the Catholic Church for the piano. Floors refinished and a jute box noted. New Airport Opens in Clermont County West of Newtonsville

Ben Gulley, former Norwood resident, plans Clermont County's largest airport half a mile west of Newtonsville on Route 31. Graded runways under construction with service expected in two to three weeks on a 20 acre tract. Future plans include a fishing lake and amusements. Gulley owns Norwood Trucking and Storage and operates two and three passenger Piper Cub planes for instruction and charter service.

Style Show at Batavia High School Auditorium

A style show featuring new clothing will be presented at Batavia High School Auditorium at 8 30 Thursday evening May 9. Miss Lillian Dill leads the event with freshmen sophomores and some junior and senior special students participating. The Batavia PTA meets in conjunction and the show is open to the public.

Wet grounds halted most Clermont County League games except two as Amelia-Withamsville moved to Amelia. Williamsville’s second sacker had three hits. Boles and Leslie starred on the mound for the winners. Withamsville tops in runs, Owensville wins again, and Batavia fights back. Local business expansion continues with multiple property changes and new store and garage developments amid ongoing construction. Next Sunday schedule lists Edenton at Newtonsville and Williamsville at Fayetteville among others.

Quiet May primary votes finalize two school bonds

In a quiet Tuesday vote 2 951 residents cast ballots to select party tickets and approve or reject school bond measures. Am erica and New Richmond bonds passed while Felicity Franklin failed on its 60 000 and 85 000 proposals. New Richmond’s 47 000 project was approved. Felicity Franklin growth remains uncertain. Clermont County results show extensive party ticket tallies and local contests for county officials.
