Sgt. Oak Adams launches a free bus tour for high school seniors from Batavia to Wright Field Dayton leaving May 15 at 6:30 am and returning 6:30 pm. He also hosts special feature film showings at Batavia Armory starting 7 pm open to the public and is recruiting in Clermont County offering 18 month 2 year and 3 year enlistment terms with G I Bill educational benefits and post service college options.

Youths Rob Grocery Store In Goshen Night Burglary

Three youths entered Liggett s Grocery in Goshen Sunday night and pocketed 35 to 50 dollars. Arthur Lee Jr 18 is jailed in Clermont County on a 500 bond after a hearing. Wiseman Receives Bronze Star for World War II Service

Lieutenant Commander Frank M. Wiseman U S N R son of Mr and Mrs J M Wiseman Batavia received a Bronze Star from Vice Admiral Calhoun for meritorious service as a Group Commander with a Land Craft Tank Flotilla during amphibious operations at Rendova and New Georgia from June 30 to August 5, 1943. The citation praises leadership, devotion to duty, and successful support of invasion forces amid enemy attacks and damage.

Fire Control Study Aboard German Cruiser Ahead Of Atomic Tests

Dennis Samuel Strimple, 25, of Batavia Route 2, a Fire Controlman First Class in the U S Navy, is aboard the former German cruiser Prince Eugene in San Diego. He and two others study the ship’s gun control system for an official report as preparations begin for atomic bomb tests. Strimple, who entered service in 1941, served in the Pacific and will stay in the Navy six more years. He recently visited Clermont County parents.

Batavia High Band Earns Superior At Miami University Auditions

Batavia High School band earned a superior rating at the postwar auditions held at Miami University on April 13. Soloist Bill Parsons earned a superior rating and may reach the state finals at Ohio State University on May 18. Trumpet trio rated excellent. judges included Weigel Whitcomb and Strecker.

Baseball league play shows midseason form in Clermont County

In the Clermont County Baseball League second round last Sunday several teams displayed midseason form. Owensville shut out Williamsburg 2–0 with pitcher Carl Rosselot allowing two hits. Batavia led Goshen 5–3 when rain halted play, declared winner. Other results include Withamsville 10–0 over Newtonsville and Mt. Carmel 15–1 over Edenton. Schedule set for May 5 with eight matchups.

Special Election On Power Plant For Batavia Ohio

Batavia Village plans a special election between June 10 and July 10 to decide on a local power and light plant costing about 225000. The council approved the project after rejecting rate reductions offered by Cincinnati Gas and Electric, and 155 signatures were filed for the election. The issue will determine if residents gain local control and lower electricity rates.

Hammond trial set for May 17 in Clermont County

Raymond Hammond with a $1000 bond faces burglary charges and is due for trial before Judge Harry Britton in Clermont County Common Pleas Court May 17. Feldman Building Project Approved in Milford

The Civilian Production Administration approved the $225,000 Feldman Frozen Food locker plant at Milford. Thomas Grace, District Manager, announced the Milford project among the district’s largest in a week. Excavation is done and structural work is underway. the building will span an acre, 210 by 180 feet, including a slaughtering room.
