The third Liberty Bond sale closed last Saturday with subscriptions far exceeding targets. In many areas quotas were trebled as residents donated cash to support the government. Batavia Boy Scouts raised 7600 by selling 88 bonds with 85 single subscriptions. The honor troop had 86 percent of the troop participate, 17 Scouts earned subscriptions, two received medals from the Government, and Forest Ely sold 20 individuals while William Moore sold 10. Ohio pike line dismantling begins after closure
Work to tear down the Ohio pike line started last week with removing every other trolley pole. By Sunday night the road stopped, and Monday morning crews began removing rails and ties. The area expects truck traffic to shift to the abandoned line and substations will be repurposed or removed. Power for the Ohio River road remains supplied by the California plant.
