Goshen Man Tops Post in 5-County United Appeal

Kenneth T. Wilbur of Goshen is named among 41 Cincinnati community leaders tapped for top posts in the 1964 United Appeal, backing a drive to raise funds for 125 health welfare and character building agencies and 16 Red Cross services across two states. The September October campaign seeks to recruit and train volunteers to reach a 30,000-strong corps, building on last year’s $7,284,752 total. Wilbur, Ford quality control supervisor and longtime community volunteer, serves as an elder, Mason, and Boy Scouts mentor, with five sons and a daughter.

LVW To Study Hospital Issue

The League of Women Voters executive board urges members to attend a joint session of the Clermont County Health and Welfare Council and the Clermont County Medical Society at Batavia Presbyterian Church on May 8 at 8 15 p.m. to discuss views for and against a county hospital. Publicity chair Mrs C W Zugelter says the meeting will help form an opinion and aim for consensus before the May 14 league meeting. Way Cleared For MGS Extension

Clermont County commissioners cleared the extension of 25 000 feet of main to serve 232 additional customers on the Miami Goshen Stonelick water system. They approved Peck Shafer and Williams to prepare legislation for about 230 000 in second lien bonds and to close out the original construction account by transferring 95 263 to the bond fund. Two booster pumps costing about 4000 were authorized for the system. Office closures followed the primary election.

Circus Returns to Batavia On May 21 At Kahle Field

The Cole Circus visits Kahle Field Batavia Thursday May 21 under the American Legion. Two shows at 6 and 8 p m feature 150 animals and a five continent program with 25 acts. Tickets available from Post members led by Commander Robert H Rice.

Oil Leases Taken In Clermont County

A division of a $300 million American corporation, Amax Petroleum Corp of Tulsa, is mid way through signing oil leases in four Clermont County townships with Wilson Bros Realtors of Batavia. The firm plans exploration in other Ohio counties, paying first year rent in advance. Local brokers face criticism for signing leases for $1 and a future $1 per acre if sold to Amax, seen as benefiting brokers rather than advancing real industry development.

Glen Este Spring Festival Set by Athletic Boosters

Glen Este junior and senior high schools host a spring festival on May 16 from 2 to 10 PM on campus. Proceeds benefit the athletic field and equipment fund with 16 midway booths, games, a country store, animals, pony rides, kiddie amusements, a jitney dinner, prizes, and a fireworks display. The top seller among students wins a transistor radio. May 11 15 designated Census Week at Goshen schools with home forms.

Amelia Kenneth Myrick postmaster announces no Saturday money orders due to Post Office Department curtailment. Saturday hours for stamps and mailing packages stay 8:30 to 12 noon. all other services unchanged. Postmaster Painter of New Richmond says no parcel post delivery on Wednesdays.

Amelian Air Medal Presented to Ronald L Mounts

Ronald L Mounts son of Tennis Mounts of Amel ia received the Air Medal for meritorious service in aerial flight over Vietnam from June 14 to June 24 1963. Brig Gen Henry S Murphy pinned the decoration at Walter Reed General Hospital where Mounts has been a patient since October 1963. Mounts enlisted in July 1959 after Central High School in Cincinnati and served six months in Vietnam as an armor repairman after tours in Korea and at Fort Knox.

Rabbit Show Slated At Clermont County Fair Grounds

Owensville reports the Clermont County Youth Rabbit Club will exhibit about 400 rabbits at the Clermont County Fair Grounds on May 17. The event is sanctioned by the American Rabbit Breeders Association and sponsored by the Hamilton County Rabbit Breeders Association with cash and ribbons for winners. Admission is free to the public.

A total of 13 113 of 31 000 registered voters cast ballots in Tuesday primaries with 6628 Republicans and 5712 Democrats turning out. West Clermont school bond issue passed 3388 to 2273. Unofficial results list Republican and Democrat candidates for County Commissioner, State Representative, Clerk of Courts, Prosecuting Attorney, Common Pleas Judge, Recorder, Treasurer, Engineer, and Coroner with several unopposed races and a Democratic write‑in tally for Dr Martin Saidleman.

Youth In Custody After Shooting

A 15 year old youth was taken into custody by Clermont County Juvenile Court authorities on probable charges in the shooting of his father Gary Taylor 45 of New Richmond. The weapon was a Mauser 22 caliber rifle fired during a disciplinary act in an upstairs bedroom. The bullet damaged the back kidney pancreas and stomach. The father was taken to Bethesda Hospital Cincinnati in critical condition after transfusions.

Charges Against Gower Continue in Goshen Case

The assault case against Goshen schools head Robert E. Gower is postponed to 1 p.m. Monday in Clermont County Court before Judge John D. Erhardt. Betty Hedger of Goshen filed the charge after Gower spanked her son Danny. Hedger is also charged with assault and battery by elementary principal Kathryn Marr after an incident at Danny’s home.

Batavia Academic Team Wins Its Academic Contest

Batavia students won the "It's Academic" competition on April 6 defeating Franklin and Regina High Schools to claim a 52 volume Western World Great Books set. Team members are Bill Kalchek Tom Thompson and Chuck Reder, with Harris Wright and Jack Gwynn as faculty and moderator respectively.
