Burglary Suspects Arrested in Clermont County

Sheriff Roberts Deputy Meinken and Joe Colonel of New Richmond arrested Earl Williamson of Chile Jess and Lews Johnson of Higginsport and John McLean of Newport Ky at Neville after weeks of work. They face burglary charges for Kroger store Hayden’s meat market Felicity and thefts in Chile. Held at Clermont County jail Batavia after a Tuesday hearing before Saylie Larkin and bound over to grand jury.

Garden Fete At Oatfields To Benefit City Garden Court

Batavians including Mesdames Wiseman Hamilton Huntington Rush Massey Homan Ferguson Griffith Nichols Speidel Ashburn and Miss Baum attended a Garden Fete Tuesday of last week at Oatfields East Walnut Hills English estate of Mrs James Perkins. The event was hosted by the Cincinnati Garden Club with receipts designated to plant and maintain the Garden Court at the Art Museum.

Judge Charles Dechant of the Juvenile Court Lebanon is named chairman of the general committee planning the District Child Welfare Conference at Memorial Hall on May 20 1980. Old Fashioned Box Social at Miamiville School Hall

Clermont county YPD hosts a box social at Miamiville School Hall Friday May 9 at 7 45 pm. Proceeds aid the Clermont County YPD Training Camp with games music feature attractions and box auctions to raise funds. Girls should bring filled boxes for auction after the program with no admission or collection.

More Tobacco, Is Money More Tobacco It Is

It is predicted that a 15 percent rise in tobacco acreage will occur this spring if plants are obtainable and prices at sale time remain low. A surplus exists now, demand supports price, and many farmers have replanted. The brouth and the black insect have damaged tobacco. A large crop is expected under favorable conditions including watering of beds by sprinkling.

Mt. Carmel opens Clermont County season with 16–0 win

Mt. Carmel topped Batavia 16 to 0 as Fesmire allowed 4 hits and struck out six. All Mt. Carmel players except manager Andres had at least one hit. Next Sunday Mt. Carmel visits Williamsburg. Williamsburg beat Owensville 12–3 with Bailey, Shriner, Bickle hitting homers and Bailey, Girard, Miller, Duncan posting two-base hits. Batavia defeated by New Richmond 6–4.

Well Attended Fellowship at Edenton

A large crowd attended the I. O. O. F. anniversary meeting in Edenton last Saturday week. The program was well suited to the occasion with a strong organ and musical lineup. Dinner was excellent and abundant. Batavia is the meeting place next April.

Eastern Star inspection and Batavia township teachers named

The Amelia Chapter of Eastern Star held its annual inspection at the Masonic Hall with inspectress Mrs. Clara Robuck of West Union. 65 guests from area chapters attended. Batavia township school board hired seven teachers for an eight month term including Onnella Manning Doris Knauer Pauline Otto Anna Ungelheam Edith Winspear S. O. Weaver Archie McMurehy and others under Amelia supervision after district consolidations.

Ohio Sunday School Workers Hold First Regional Institute Plan

The Ohio Sunday School Workers Convention announces a new regional plan proposed by Dr. Robert M. Hopkins with approval from the Ohio Council of Religious Education. Six state convention institutes will run in Ohio cities beginning May 25 to avoid clashing with Toronto’s International Convention on June 28-29, 1930. Clermont County Council will hold its annual convention in Felicity May 22-23 with a strong program planned.

No Room No Prisoners Sent to Judges Across State

Word is sent to county judges that no more prisoners will be received at the penitentiary until housing improves. Adams county Judge Stephenson postponed May grand jury. each county must house its prisoners until conditions change. Spring imagery closes the piece with devotional reflections.

Slow Petitions Filed for Clermont August Primary

Filing slow petitions in Clermont County for the August primary ends June 12 at midnight. County office petitions require 100 signatures and township committee petitions require five each. Petitions available from the Election Board Clerk in Batavia. Republicans sign Republican candidates and Democrats sign Democratic candidates. A 0.5 percent salary deposit is due at filing.

Decoration Day Observance Planned by American Legion

Decoration Day falls on the last Friday in May with arrangements by the American Legion. Public program details will be announced later and will include music and speeches. Many visitors from afar are expected as the day draws renewed tribute to deceased soldiers and rekindles old acquaintances. Public invitation issued.

Batavia and Amelia schools announce baccalaureate sermons on May 11 with Dr. Julian P. Love and commencement programs May 15 at Batavia High School featuring Dr. F M Essig and a male quartet. New Road Map Requests Pour In From Courier Ad

The Courier advertised a new road map and received many requests. People can obtain the maps by writing Secretary of State Clarence J. Brown in Columbus Ohio rather than the Courier. Requests filed were forwarded to Mr Brown.

Hawk Head Payment Law For Township Officials

Under law the township trustees may pay $1.00 for hawk heads and 26 cents for crows. Each township clerk handles his territory and bills with head must be presented. County commissioners pay for crows upon certificate of the township clerk where the birds are killed.

John Moore a check worker forged E A Earnest joined Milford to pass a stolen First National Bank Batavia check on Mary Flaugher at Milford. The check came to Batavia Tuesday and was declared a forgery after being stolen Saturday.

Obituary: George Studer Local Police Official Dies in Cincinnati

George Studer longtime Cincinnati police official died from inhaling monoxide gas in his garage Saturday morning in Cincinnati. He served 25 years on the force and is survived by a widow two sons and a brother. Funeral at Old Bethel cemetery Bantam on Monday.

Ohio Odd Fellows Grand Lodge Meet in Cincinnati

The Grand Lodge of Ohio Odd Fellows convenes in Cincinnati from June 16 to 19 with elaborate preparations.
