Batavia High School Prepares May Events Schedule

Batavia High School outlines events from May 13 to 29 including class exhibits, senior play May 14, junior senior banquet May 21, baccalaureate May 23, commencement May 28, senior dance May 28, and alumni banquet May 29. Tickets go on sale at Nash Pharmacy on May 10 and 24. Committees announced for Alumni Association events.

Traveling Wavel Officers Demonstrate Eastern Star Rituals

Georgetown chapter Eastern Star officers visited Williamsburg Monday to exemplify the traveling naval series ritual work in Clermont and adjoining counties. The plan to invite a neighbor chapter to visit for the ritual is gaining favor in CES circles. A social hour followed the meeting.

Batavians Marry and Local Nuptials Reported

Miss Mayme K daughter of Kyle Moyer and Richard Didday both of Batavia were wed last Thursday at her parents home by Rev G H Wiggins in front of about forty relatives and friends. After a brief wedding trip they will reside in Clyde Tom's property west of town. Wm B Iles Jr and Mrs Izola Foreman two Batavia youths with positions at Citizens by Coin were quietly married last Sunday by Rev Smith of U B church. They live on Wood Street. The funeral of Mrs Mary Rosen mother of A M Stamm Williamsburg was held Sunday May 2 at the Presbyterian Church. she died in St Louis April 29.

Huntington Couple Quietly Celebrate 64th Anniversary

Mr and Mrs George W Huntington of Amelia Ohio observe their 64th wedding anniversary at home on Friday May 7 They were wed at Mt Holly Ohio by Rev J H Lockwood and have spent their lives in Clermont County He is 85 she 83 both in good health Cashier John Huntington of Batavia Bank is their oldest child.

Cecil Himes of Batavia, son of Mr and Mrs Fred C Himes, graduates from West Point Military Academy in June with honors. He has made a fine record and many friends extend best wishes.

Kahley Hurt In City Wreck After Sideswipe

Oil dealer Harry Kahley of Batavia was sideswiped by a truck on Stone lick hill during a business trip. His car overturned into a ditch leaving him with a bruise on an arm and leg. Moor's ambulance transported him to the hospital.

The Farm Bureau Council Group of District No 2 sponsors an entertainment titled Love Feast Reveries where 26 First Night ers perform true to life roles. The event is set for Monday evening May 10 at Goshen auditorium with free admission and open to all.

Monroe Grange of Nicholsville will hold its next regular meeting on May 7 with Marathon Grange as guests. The program will be presented and each lady is asked to bring a pie and a dozen sandwiches.

Clermont students win top honors at Miami University

Owensville high school five member Clermont county scholarship team excelled at Miami University on May 1. Harry Lampe won first in chemistry and Evelyn Rockwell first in Algebra, both ahead of large city high schools. Ruth Lampe and Mary Ellen Evans took second in Latin I and Plane Geometry amid about 80 competitors per subject. John Davis placed fifth in Latin II.

The Clermont County Gambling Raid and Political Battles

County raid nets 56 slot and marble machines

Prosecutor Frank A Roberts with deputy sheriffs and county detective plus Rangers from Mt Repose Loveland Branch Hill Owensville Goshen and Mt Carmel conducted a raid to seize slot and marble machines. At 10 o clock Sunday the machines were moved to Batavia for grand jury evidence with about 56 machines captured and held under guard for May 4 witnesses and ownership determinations.

Amelia High School to Present Three Act Play The Ghost Parade

The Amelia High School senior class will present a three act play The Ghost Parade on Friday night May 21 at 8 00 p m in the school auditorium. Baccalaureate services with Rev George Reed follow on Sunday May 23 at 8 00 p m and another event on Wednesday May 26 at 8 00 p m. Reserved seats go on sale May 17 at 8 00 a m at the school building.

Williamsburg Grange Mother's Day Program Highlights

The Williamsburg Grange held a May 1 meeting with a Mother's Day program after the business. Mothers received flowers and the mother with the largest family won a pot flower. The program featured songs and readings by the ladies who are mothers. The next meeting is set for May 29.

Soren Batavia PTA Plans Final Meet and Exhibition

The Soren Batavia PTA will hold its final meet on Thursday May 13 at 7 30 PM. After installation Mrs Grace Hourker plans an interesting evening featuring fourth grade with Miss Fishbach, a high school student coached by Mr Det er, and an exhibition of work by every room and department of the school for parents and all who attend.

Clermont County Track Meet Sets Day at Owensville Fairgrounds

The Clermont County Athletic Association schedules a county track and field meet at Owensville Fairgrounds on Tuesday afternoon May 11 starting 1 30 p m. Events for boys and girls include sprints distance runs relays field events and a baseball throw. All county schools will be represented with a full lineup of events beginning with the girls 70 yard dash and boys 100 yard dash.

The Batavia High School annual senior class play presents The Leavenworth Case on Friday in the new auditorium. Basil Ring, famed for detective fiction, adapts Anna Katharine Green’s novel with Ebenezer Gryce pursuing the killer of Horatio Leavenworth. Tickets go on sale May 10 at Nash Pharmacy.
