Hon Charles C Kearns hosted a Batavia dinner drawing district friends as baseball and K I O league play opened with Georgetown beating Higginsport 3 to 1. Newtown topped Mt Carmel 18 to 11 while Bethel defeated Parcel H C 10 to 7. Williamsburg beat the Liberty s 4 to 3 and Ripley fell to All-Americans 10 to 5. State game wardens fined several violators along the East Fork licenses cost 1 26 and two were sent to Bethel for trial. A new U B Church at Batavia will be a Gothic pressed brick building with 95 by 54 feet dimensions, Wood street entrance, a rear tower, gas steam heating, and seating for about 700 across two floors.

The Senior Class play at the town hall Thursday and Friday nights impressed with careful prep and strong performances. Batavia band provided music and the crowd’s praise affirmed the effort. In a separate note, Batavia high school’s late rally beat an unnamed opponent 4-3 in a thrilling game, as teams prepared for the Field Meet. On April 29, 1926, Kenneth Jones of Red Bank, Cincinnati, Ohio, married Miss Carrie E. Beard of Williamsburg, Ohio, at Batavia. Rev. E. Burdsall officiated and friends sent best wishes as the couple planned their Red Bank home.

Early Saturday sheriff Fred Croswell and deputies moved to the northern part of the county to remove a traveling band described as undesirable roamers who tell fortunes for a side line. The group traveled by auto and horses, and promised not to return after being driven from the area.

Robbery at Milford by traveling gypsy band
A group of about 50 gypsies camping at Happy Hollow spent Sunday in Milford during their Haster festival and visited shops selling fortune telling. Dr. Christopher lost a roll of bills and Sheriff Croswell recovered the money with no prosecution, after they promised to leave the county on Monday.
