Batavia U. B. Church Dedication And Local Nuptials

Dedication of Batavia U. B. church last Sunday featured Bishop Clippinger presiding with E. F. Wegner and Rev. Semrau. Gifts included a Bible from the Sunbeam class and a silk flag from the D. A. lodge. The goal to clear church debt was reached, raising over 1100 dollars amid generous offerings. Also, John W. Turner and Etta Turner of Bethel wed at Rev. Burdsall’s Batavia home April 30 with several attendees and a brief auto trip following.

Amelia P T A closes year with fundraising fete bazaar and show

The Amelia P T A reports a successful year ending with events like a lawn fete an alphabetical bazaar and a stunt show that raised money. Winter purchases included $150 for books across grades and the treasury ends with a $95 balance. Officers elected include Miss Rachel Perin president and several vice secretarial posts.

Eighth Graders Take County 8th Grade Exam at Batavia

Eighth graders gathered at Batavia school last Saturday for the county 8th grade examination.182 students attended as preparation for high school entrance. The Courier commends local grade schools for their solid work and bright, eager youngsters.

Sunday Sport reports Batavia defeating Loveland 6 to 0 with strong pitching by Bishop and sharp fielding. Mount Carmel and Batavia share top status as Owensville and New Richmond also win. Mt Carmel beats Williamsburg 4 to 2. Standings show Batavia Mt Carmel tied for first with 2 0 records and 1.000 pace.

Re appointed deputy state supervisors of elections

In Clermont county Ohio Mrs Edna K Spear Republican of Branch Hill and Thos J Dugan Democrat of Williamsburg were appointed deputy state supervisors of elections by Secretary of State Clarence J Brown. The appointments are effective May 1 for two years with compensation based on the number of voting precincts in the county.

Fruit crop weathered freeze with most varieties saved

The recent cold damaged fruit patches but left enough peaches apples and strawberries to meet needs. Peaches and apples remain abundant for all purposes while strawberries suffered more losses. The note adds gardening guidance favoring twice as many female strawberry plants as male for better yields.

Judge H L Nichols, chairman of the county Red Cross Disaster Committee, says flood relief fund solicitation is going well. Bethel doubled its tie to reach 200, Williamapurg Presbyterian Sunday school raised 104.36, Batavia subscribed 250, other places contributing. Hoover reports need to raise ten million dollars instead of five million, so Clermont County must exceed its 1200 quota.

District Rally of Daughters of America at Batavia Armory

The twelfth annual district rally of the Daughters of America was held at the Batavia Armory last Saturday with a large crowd. Afternoon program included invocation, addresses, roll calls, reports, prizes, and elections. Evening featured songs, remarks by Rev. Burdsall, talks by state officials, solo and drill by Linwood team, with high applause for the Linwood drill.

Clermont Legion to Broadcast May 9 on WRKC Cincinnati

Clermont County American Legion Council stages a two hour broadcast May 9 from 8 to 10 p m on station WRKC Cincinnati as part of American Legion Weeks and the statewide membership drive. Fort Thomas 10th Infantry Band anchors hour one followed by Clermont county entertainers including Odett Milford Williamsburg Orchestra Loveland Milford banjo trio and local soloists. Burley Tobacco Growers to disburse 1926 crop payments by May 15

Lexington Kentucky reports the Burley Tobacco Growers Cooperative Association will distribute final 1926 crop payments to members in Kentucky Indiana Ohio West Virginia Tennessee Missouri and Virginia by May 15. Some 96 000 to 100 000 checks must be written plus thousands of recalculations by a staff of 20 check writers over about 12 days.

Decoration Day Observance Planned in Batavia

Four weeks from last Monday Decoration Day will be observed with a committee arranging the program. The Legion boys lead ceremonies and all are invited to participate. Cemeteries will be beautified under George Haney with good music and an able address as the day fosters reunions and new contacts.

King buys property in Batavia plans modern bungalo

Hugh J. King buys two lots from the late Judge Lee property in Batavia. He will build a modern bungalow on the upper site beside the old house and reserve two buildable sites below with a rear drive for garages. A correction states the large hog sold by O Williams and Son to Mr Jester of Williamsburg was bred and raised on L W Male and Son farm to serviceable age before sale. The animal originated from the Male herd and was sold to Mr William.
