Five Hyde Park youngsters reading Mark Twain rode to Batavia, borrowed two boats, and sailed toward Perintown. A sheriff’s search found one boat with two youths, who were taken to the courthouse and later released to parents. The other boat was abandoned as authorities expected the third boy to have fled.
The Mt Carmel Grange 975 met April 20 with Stanley E Pattison leading a panel on safety. At the next meeting all members are to report progress on a clean up.
A 1846 Countrie column recalls a wedding and a proverb about secrets. The text notes the marriage of Joshua M. Rust to Jane Trout on the 20th, officiated by Rev. Schofield, alongside a reflection on politeness and secrecy.
Ivory D. Hayden, Moscow butcher, was run down and killed by a truck Monday morning above New Richmond. The vehicle was reportedly loaded with top tad SFO by Mrs. ma oder i Ma st.
A 25 year ago program showcased music and recitations with violin solo by Murry Titus and the Peak Sisters performance by Ada Kidd Bessie Hartman Josephine Behymer Grace Kidd Minnie Brimk Lowie Curtis Ejla Kidd Bertha Brunk Mary Horn. They wore tall white hats snowy aprons and handkerchiefs as the finale.
In 1946 Clermont County voters will cast ballots May 7 with only five absentee ballots requested. Heaviest turnout expected in Amelia New Richmond and Felicity Franklin for school bond issues. Ballots total over 17 000 including 3 400 for schools 7 000 Republican and 6 000 Democratic. Polls open 6 30 a m to 6 30 p m Batavia voting sites listed Amelia O F Hall and other districts. Mrs Florence Pattison wife of Stanley Pattison principal of Mt. Carmel Glen Este School suffered a serious cut to her left arm Friday evening after tripping over a dog. Her arm fractured a heavy glass severing arteries and tendons requiring treatment in Batavia then Christ Hospital Cincinnati. Doctors expect full recovery though two weeks in hospital. She was preparing for a PTA home talent play set for May 3 and 4 at the Mt Carmel Glen Este school.
A. D. St. Clair of the State Department of Education on rehabilitation will meet Batavia Superintendent Frank Hoggatt Thursday to review 19 Clermont County schools eligible for program funds.
A regional fair circuit directors meeting is planned for April 27 in Williamsburg with 118 supervisors and teachers from 52 weekday church systems of Ohio. Key participants include D R Van Atta of Cincinnati as Southwestern Ohio Circuit president and Arthur Peed of Williamsburg organizing the event. five counties will be represented. The program features notable speakers and a public evening session inviting community attendance.

The State Conservation Commission hears recommendations from Brooks Wigginton and a University of Georgia landscape artist for adult day-use playgrounds in Clermont and Ottawa counties to serve major population centers. Overnight parks with hotel facilities are urged for Highland and Clinton counties. Condemnation actions against D C Austin of Clinton County, owner of 200 acres for Cowans Creek recreation lake, are authorized after refusal to sell at top bid.
The Spring Meeting of the Mont County Teachers Association was held at the New Richmond Presbyterian Church. The session opened at 5 p m with music by the New Richmond School. R G Little reported on the recent O E A meeting followed by addresses from Major Frank Morrison and Reverend Lawrence Hall.
The Clermont County Council of Religious Education marks its 80th anniversary with a May 3 program at Amelia Methodist Church. Dr W H Thompson of Columbus and Miss Dorothea Wolcott of Columbus speak on weekday religious education. Rev J C Lasky and Rev W J Miller also present. A 6 pm covered dish supper precedes an 7:45 musical program by Don Edmond and Jack Leith.
FE. C. Saxton, former Clermont County Agricultural Adjustment Administration chairman, elected president of the county agricultural council. Herman Fagley named vice president and Dale K. Bee re elected secretary. Randall Liming mentioned.
A three act comedy titled Leave It To Grandma will be presented at the Mt Carmel Glen Este School Auditorium at 8 p m Friday and Saturday May 3 and 4. The PTA sponsors report the show is action packed from beginning to end and will feature tap dancing and singing by the Bulow Sisters between scenes. Proceeds from ticket sales go to the Mt Carmo Glen Este PTA.
The Batavia Woman's Club will meet on Thursday April 25 at the home of Mrs. Harold D. Nichols replacing Mrs. James Walker as host.
Ohio Valley amateurs listed for the Amateur Program hosted by Dr. Sam Pollack and aired on Station WKRC Sunday April 28. Participants include David Rahn and Donald Irwin of Lebanon with a song and dance number, Roy George and Bessie George of Oxford, and Edward Bruce of Hamilton performing boogie woogie and guitar pieces.
Clermont County American Legionnaires will join a district rally and mass initiation in Cincinnati on May 1. A parade forms at Eighth and Race before proceeding to Taft auditorium, with a prep assembly at 6 p.m. on Route 52 at Lunken Airport. Major General Robert Beightler will speak at a dinner, and the event concludes with Legion vaudeville acts by Forty Six.
The first 1946 motor vehicle registration fee distribution to Clermont County districts is announced by State Highway Director Perry T. Ford. Checks are being sent to the County Auditor with amounts listed for Amelia Batavia Bethel Felicity Loveland Milford Moscow Neville New Richmond N 87.50 Owensville Arg townships and the county totaling 43,668.
By Stanley Anstaett ideal weather preceded the opening of the 1946 Clermont County League season with six games. Mt. Orab routed Amelia 19 to 2 as Batavia 26 defeated Edenton. C Monjar hit three homers for Batavia. Owensville beat Fayetteville 15 to 0. Williamsburg American Legion beat New Richmond 8 to 1. Williamsville crushed Mt. Carmel 8 to 1.
Four road improvement projects in Clermont County are planned with bids opening May 7. The projects total about 32 308 dollars and cover SR 749 New Palestine Linsdale Road in Pierce and Ohio Townships, SR 222 Nicholsville Felicity Road in Monroe and Tate Townships, and SR 232 Bethel Point Pleasant in the targeted areas. State Highway Director Perry T Ford notes the scope includes 5.46 miles on SR 749, 3.30 miles on SR 222, and 6.4 miles on SR 232.
Mt Carmel gave a good account of themselves and will trouble balls for eight innings before an infield error in the ninth allowed the losers a lone run. Goshen edged Newtonsville 7 to 4 with Rohmer and Ertel pitching and Voll catching. Imhoff and Groft led Newtonsville on defense. County fans praised Cincinnati umpires and next Sunday's schedule lists Mt Carmel at Edenton and several other matchups.
Sgt Oak Adams has opened a branch recruiting office in Batavia Post Office to boost Army enlistments. An intensive campaign will offer 18 month 2 year and 3 year tours, with recruits choosing branch and theater of service. Adams first enlisted in 1927 left 1930 worked for Thomas J Dyer Co until 1942 then re enlisted serving overseas with 705th M P Battalion as medical aid and with the 112th.
