Clermont County farmers petition for a combined 104 400 dollars in 1947 Agricultural Conservation practices aid under the AAA program. The county allotment stands at 70137 and about 1800 farmers have signed up to participate this year.

Clermont County Service Officer has moved from Batavia Court House to new offices beside the Conference Room. Officer J. M. Vet housing units begin bases across Clermont County
Work starts this week on foundations for three emergency veteran housing units in Clermont County. Units stored in Williamsburg will be set up on American Legion grounds near Williamsburg Bethel New Richmond outside village limits. The 8 & 8 Distributing Company, builder of Studio Apartment Homettes, will ship three more units to Batavia siding. first houses to be erected once foundations are ready.

Injured At Tavern In Owensville Brawl
Sheriff Dericks and Deputy Bissantz sought two to three suspects on an assault charge after an altercation at the Log Cabin Inn near Owensville Saturday. Two men were struck with a blackjack and needed medical care. Russell Henize, formerly of Batavia, now Mowrys town, had nine stitches for a scalp cut. The other injured man was William Gavey of Williamsburg Route 2.

Prominent Batavia Citizen James Wiseman Dies at 68
James M. Wiseman longtime Batavia clerk of elections school board and justice of the peace died suddenly at his home last Wednesday aged 68. He served Batavia in public offices for years and was active in the local grocery business beginning in 1916. He is survived by Harriet Wiseman his widow two sons Frank Monroe and James Robert two brothers Charles and Lew and two sisters Margaret Massie and Emma Vermillion. Burial was in Batavia Cemetery following funeral at Moore Funeral Home.

Poppy Campaign Announced For Legion Post
American Legion Auxiliary moves to aid disabled veterans with the memorial poppy program. Poppy chairman Mrs. Harold Nichols outlined plans for Poppy Day on May 24 and noted ongoing hospital work providing employment to veterans. More than 25,000,000 crepe paper poppies are expected to be completed. Cincinnati Rabbit Breeders' Association to hold a spring show in Cheviot May 16-18.

Delinquencies Fall as Clermont County Posts Higher Tax Distributions
County Auditor Blythe Jones reports a 34 000 increase in distributions to townships villages and schools in Clermont County for 1947. First half tax receipts totaled 269 870 85, up from 235 537 07 in 1946, with school districts 166 628 02 villages 22 673 52 townships 25 698 30 and county 49 778 77. Delinquents dropped from 32 493 71 to 28 164 69 since February and tax books for the year’s second half open June 30 and close August 9.

Owensville plans to form a local fire department within weeks. Mayor Edward Brunk says Stonelick Township trustees and the village council will act soon. A public hearing at Owensville school named a committee to seek support and raise about 1500 dollars for equipment purchases.
