The Batavia Main Street project is 65.2 percent finished with 66 percent of funds spent. Despite weather and labor challenges begun Oct 16, sewer work is done, curb and gutter nearly 75 percent finished, and concrete paving to commence soon. William Pangburn supervises. Jack Fuller is the engineer.
The Clermont County Schoolmasters Club will hold its final meeting of the year at Williamsburg on Thursday evening May 2 at 6 15. Officers for the coming year will be elected at this meeting.
Miss Betty Wilson to host Batavia Junior Woman's Club on Thursday evening May 2 with co hosts Mesdames Louis Fishback Claude Coyle Luther Cole. Program includes Social Agencies responses needed for social improvement. Red Cross Rev V P Martin Aid for the Aged Mrs Wm Dowdney Child Welfare Miss Frances Reese County Relief Mr Earl Kincaid.
Republican Advisory Council holds its regular monthly meeting in Goshen school auditorium on the evening of May 2 1940. County candidates and a few State and National officers will be presented. A dinner is served by local P T A at 7 p.m. Reservations to Mrs Alma Smith Goshen Ohio.
W P A workers toiled through Tuesday night into Wednesday morning aiding families in southern Clermont County. Ten truck loads of furniture were moved to safety in county trucks led by County Superintendent William Wehman. Flood victims expressed sincere gratitude for the timely relief.
Amelia School’s boys quartet, led by Joseph A. Justin, earned an Excellent rating in the Ohio High School Instrumental and Vocal Solo and Ensemble finals at Oberlin, ranking second in Class C and earning bronze medals. Jack Smith won Superior in Tenor Solo, earning a silver medal and a trip to National Region III in Springfield, Illinois. Justin missed the event due to his mother’s death.
Clermont County Teacher Association holds its annual spring meeting in New Richmond on May 8. Miss Myrtle Wilson announces two departmental sessions at 4 45 and 5 30 PM with dinner at 6 30 PM and topics ranging from citizenship to school relations. Dean L A Pechstein will address the group with Rev J W Spaulding giving the invocation.
Milford Village council was entertained at the Kiwanis Club during the regular Monday night dinner meeting. George Murphey, village solicitor, was the principal speaker of the evening. Rubber type is in wide use today among commercial printers.
Irwin Rhoades, 35, Milford, indicted by a Grand Jury last month on receiving and concealing stolen auto accessories belonging to Edward Osborne and Harley Delano, was convicted by a petit jury Saturday. The accessories valued at about $80. Rhoades denied knowledge of the theft. The court imposed from 1 to 7 years.
Mr and Mrs William A Page of Bethel observed their sixtieth wedding anniversary on Monday April 29 ongoing from southern Ohio where both taught before marriage Mr Page 92 served in county offices including county surveyor Mrs Page has six children and three still living Elsa Florence Helen Russell Allen Pauline Bolender are named with residencies in Lakewood Cincinnati Miami University and Detroit.
The Clermont County Scouters Training Committee will run a three session Scoutmastership course at Batavia School starting May 2. Attendees who complete the May 2, 9, and 16 sessions will receive certificates. Rev. Vernon Martin chairs the program outlining scout setup, songs, games, and recreation ideas.
Funeral services for John Slye 77 longtime Amelia school superintendent and later Internal Revenue official were held Saturday at 2 p m at the Amelia residence. He taught in area schools before leading Amelia schools then joined the IRS in Cincinnati retiring seven years ago. He is survived by his widow Mary Carl Slye two sons Carl and William Kline. The Rev George C Reed spoke at the service with arrangements by Moore Funeral Home Batavia and interment in Odd Fellows cemetery.

The Batavia High School Alumni Association will hold its annual reunion and banquet on Saturday night May 25 at the school auditorium. Former superintendent Harry C. Altman and Judge Allen Roudebush are among invitees. Alumni moved or missing notices are asked to update their addresses with Mrs. Richard Didday.
Pupils of Batavia Public Schools displayed yearlong progress in home economics, industrial arts, science, geometry, English, and creative writing. Miss Vera Kersting led a style show with Bond Clothing Company models, while Edmund D. Parrott guided manual arts displays. Third graders in Miss Mae Skagg’s room illustrated an integrated world trip project.
School officials announce end of year events for Owensville and Goshen. Owensville senior class has 23 members with commencement May 22 at 8 15 in the auditorium. May 9 junior senior reception. May 18 senior exams. May 25 alumni reunion. Goshen plans include senior class play May 17 at 8 P M and commencement May 24 at 8 15 with alumni reunion May 25. Members of both senior classes are listed with numerous names.

The Clermont County Conservation and Natural Resources commission schedules its second meeting at the courthouse on Friday evening May 3. At a March 21 armory meeting Arthur Ruffner was named president and Ben N. West vice president to represent farmers and Lawrence White to represent sportsmen, with Russell Liven also elected to represent farmers. Clermont Sportsmen Inc now directs local conservation work under Frank Hoggatt, and the group urges broad participation and bringing more farmers and sportsmen to the session, noting a game dek is on site for the gathering.
