Petit Jury Summoned in Clermont County Hearings Next Week

Clermont county officials announce a April 26 petit jury session to hear criminal cases from Grand Jury indictments. First up is Irwin Rhoades of Milford for concealing stolen auto accessories. Additional cases include wrongful death, driving with improper license, cutting with intent, salary recovery, mandamus for supplies, and a county commissioners’ bill case. A bench trial is expected for Auxier and Blank Book cases with Judge Hugh Gilmore presiding. Numerous jurors from Loveland to Batavia are listed as panel members.

Highest Ranking Clermont Students Named From Selection Tests

Thirty five pupils earned top marks in Clermont county high school selection tests held Friday at Batavia. The top two in sixteen subjects plus three tied in Latin II form the county Scholarship team bound for the District State meet at Miami University May 4 to face teams from Adams Highland Brown Hamilton Butler and Warren counties.

Flood fears ease as Ohio River crest nears

With the Ohio River crest unlikely to exceed 59 feet, fears of a major flood abate as the rise slows. Several riverfront families in New Richmond Neville Chile and Higginsport evacuate temporarily while roads and bridges face inundation. Route closures reroute traffic and water surrounds the Higginsport area including the old hotel and White Oak bridge.

Silver Moon Class Fish Dinner Planned

The Summerside Methodist Church, the Silver Moon Class, will host a fish dinner Friday evening from 5 to 8. The event, served at the church, costs 85 cents and is open to everyone.

Cincinnati group U S Grant Women’s Relief Corps will present a flag at the Grant Memorial Church in Point Pleasant at 2 pm Sunday April 28. Mrs Ethel Chambers will lead the presentation with Rev L Wamsley accepting. attendees include Grand Army Women’s Relief Corps Sons of Veterans and Auxiliary. Milford High announces final events and senior class

Milford school released the senior calendar led by 31 graduates. Senior play on April 24, Baccalaureate May 26, commencement May 28, alumni reunion May 25. Bethel High Senior Invited to Miami University Luncheon

Ely Hill a Bethel High School senior and son of Mr and Mrs Ebon Hill received an invitation to a luncheon at Miami University on May 4 honoring high ranking seniors from the recent Senior Scholarship Test held at Batavia on March 30. State Conservation Commission sets safety zones prohibiting fishing in portions of streams from April 15 1940 to February 28 1941 marked by red and black posters along banks.

Local Driver Licenses Granted In Batavia District

A batch of applicants appeared for driver licenses last Saturday in Batavia with numerous entries from Batavia New Richmond Amelia Williamsburg Milford Coraddale Bethel Amelis and Owensville. Twenty one individuals passed the license tests and received approvals.

125 Years Old at Clermont Social Lodge Celebration

The Clermont Social Lodge No. 29 F. and A. M. of Williamsburg marks its 125th anniversary on June 1 1940 with a complete history of the lodge and members to be presented. The first lodge order dated June 1 1815 was instituted in Clermont County and its early residents have since passed away.

Contractors Finance Corporation of Cincinnati submitted the lowest bid of 133,931.77 for the N. and W. Route 74 Batavia underpass, beating the engineer's estimate of 141,517.82. This third advertisement attracted four bids, with check pending before award.

Gillett Reviews WPA Achievements in Ohio

L A Gillett manager of Southwestern Ohio District WPA reviews four and a half years of WPA operations in Ohio. He reports 763 buildings, 20000 miles of roads improved and 1139 parks and athletic fields worked on. He notes every community has workers moved from relief to public projects.

Welfare group holds Clermont meeting to form district program committee

Clermont county welfare workers met in Probate court room to elect a six member program committee for the Ohio District Welfare Conference in Wilmington in June. Nominees Emma Wilke, Sam Ausman, Dr. J A Carter, Rev Vern on Martin, Judge Orville Halbisch, and Robert Bradley were unanimously chosen. The group adjourned to reconvene May 7 at 1 30 in the juvenile court room to refine the program.

Safety car stop demonstration at Owensville school

At Owensville High School a graphic car stopping demo will be held on Jackson Pike in front of the school at 1 pm Monday April 29. Harry M. Pontious of Farm Bureau Insurance will use a specially equipped car to show stopping distances with yellow bullets and three guns signaling warning, brake, and stop. An 80 minute auditorium lecture precedes the street test with students staff and officers driving and measuring results.
