Nellie Lewis valedictorian of the Batavia class received a four year $1000 scholarship from the Batavia Alumni Association at U B church Saturday. Funded by Philip Swing, the former Batavian who died last year, the award will support her attendance at Ohio State University Columbus. The money is to be returned to the association when possible.

The Batavia High School commencement exercises were held at the town hall on Wednesday night. Twenty three graduates received diplomas as the Batavia Concert Band played popular selections. Prof. J C Collins of Miami University delivered the address emphasizing the value of education for all and its lasting worth. The speaker and his wife were greeted by many attendees in a well attended ceremony. The graduates wore caps and gowns, presenting a collegiate appearance.

Wind and hail storm causes damage near Eastwood
A wind and hail storm swept the area last Thursday with minimal damage locally but Eastern neighborhoods near Eastwood suffered heavy destruction to robin, window panes and vegetation. Some farmhouses were lost to the storm.

Heavy frosts and a severe freeze in Clermont County damaged orchards in valleys and lowlands with low temperatures down to 27 F. High elevation areas escaped major injury though fruit set is reduced by june drop. peaches plums and cherries saw up to 75 percent drainage and potential 50 percent crop after drop.
