Adams County youth Elmer Cross, son of N W Cross of West Union, member of the state militia, fired three shots at 61 year old veteran William Stephens in Huntington West Virginia. Stephens died within hours from wounds. dispute arose after Stephens mocked Cross and the National Guard. Alternate account suggests self defense.

Four months after a kick from a neighboring horse, Fannie a well bred family mare used by Judge Hulick and noted for gentleness and reliability, was cared for by Hulick’s sons in a feather cradle until last week. Unable to recover the old animal was taken over the hill and euthanized to end her suffering.
John Burkley and his son of Afton returned from South Bend where they sought a madstone doctor after dog bites suspected rabies. The madstone was applied for thirty minutes on each wound, turning from dull gray to light green, then detached as saturated with virus. The stone’s owner says the patients are entirely out of danger.
Judge and Mrs. O. P. Griffith entertained at Wood Street Thursday night with an intimate family dinner in honor of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. McMath of Chicago. Guests included Dr. and Mrs. W. The remains of Mrs Warren Twicket who years ago was sent to the asylum at Athens were brought to Batavia last night and will be taken to Mt Moriah for interment today.
The Reverend Hammel of Cincinnati, a noted temperance lecturer, will speak to Williamsburg citizens at the M E church on Friday evening April 8 at 8 o'clock. The event, organized by the Union Temperance Society, is free and all residents nearby are invited to attend.
Sylvester G. Gliney and Maggie LB. Emery of Pleasant Valley near Monterey were married Thursday evening March 24 at the officiating clergyman Rev. Graves Newtonville residence, in a small gathering of relatives and intimate friends. The couple, noted as estimable and well liked, begin a hopeful journey together.
