Union township post office plan debated at civic meeting

E N Steiger labeled the plan as scuttlebutt while stating Cincinnati 30 as the Union township mailing address remains under study. Rep James G Polk protested mounted routes for Batavia and Amelia, urging delays until patrons’ views are heard. The three civic groups seek a Union township branch post office and unified mailing. Mrs Blyth Heckler won a 1956 Cadillac at a Cincinnati Junior Chamber of Commerce supper.

Study Committee For Court House Need Takes Form

A citizens committee to study the need for a county court house expansion is forming. Auditor Earle B. Kincaid and the board of commissioners clerk said four men agreed to serve: Robert Hannah of Bethel hardware proprietor. Hermon Fagley near Bethel orchardist. John S. Moore of Batavia representative of Clermont County Bar Association. and George Knehnle CEA community relations officer representing county utility interests.

Glen Este Courier Missing No More Susie Smythe Dies

Mrs Susie B Smythe longtime Glen Este correspondent for The Courier died Sunday from a heart attack. Services were held Wednesday at Moore funeral home Batavia. Burial at Mt Moriah Cemetery. She is survived by husband Harry two sons Royal of Baltimore and Allen of Mt Washington and two daughters Mrs Edward Huheey of here and Mrs Richard Gollier of San Diego California.

Bad Flue Cause Of Home Blaze

Williamsville Fire Department responded to a Clough Heights Lane home Saturday at 11 30 am to battle a blaze believed caused by a defective flue. Structures damage set at 3000 with furnishings intact. Lt Earl Kuntz incurred an injured hand and received on scene treatment. Chief Clifford Schaerges provided the details.

Easter Egg Hunt Prizes Pledged at Batavia Event

New City Loan Office To Open In Milford

The City Loan and Savings Co of Lima announces a license granted for a Milford office opening by next December. Robert Crowe, manager of the Batavia City Loan office, acted as fiscal agent. the Milford Building Loan and Savings Co will move to new quarters.

Dr Carl Minning Named Delegate to Ohio Medical Meet

Dr Carl A Minning of Batavia will represent the Clermont County Medical Society at the Ohio State Medical Association annual convention in Cleveland April 10 12 Delegates will set policies elect officers and thousands of physicians are expected to attend alongside 88 county delegates in the state

County and Railroad Plan Crossing Upgrades

C B Murray of the State Utilities Commission informed Clermont County commissioners that the N and W Railway will install flasher signals and bells at the Roundbottom Road crossing in South Milford once the county improves the crossing approaches. Residents urged the lights after a milk truck injury and bus safety concerns. Commissioners Clark Anstaett and Croswell agreed to the improvements, and County Engineer Rush said plans are in progress with work to begin after completion. The Upper Clough Civic Club will host Meet your Candidates Night on April 4 at 8 p.m. at the Clubhouse on Clough Pike opposite Deepwood Lane.

Molasses Truck Upsets in Goshen

A tank truck carrying molasses spilled and burned after its steering failed and it overturned near the Routes 48 and 28 junction in Goshen. Driver Thomas R. Huber, of National Molasses Co., Cincinnati, was pulled from the fire by Aaron Watson, a fellow driver from Cincinnati, suffering back, head, and arm injuries.

Board rejects merger request and appeals ruling

The Clermont County Board of Education rejected Branch Hill school district merger with Loveland and voted to appeal Judge Houston's halt of consolidation for Amelia Glen Este Mt Carmel and Williamsville Tabasco districts. Branch Hill petitioners sought transfers to Loveland and the board refused.

GOP Club Invites Candidates To Meeting Tonight

A newly organized Republican Club in Williamsburg invites county commissioner candidates to a meeting at the community center. Club officers include Tom Duckworth president and Horace White first vice president with Marion Smith second vice president Peggy Deel recording secretary Evelyn Mosbacker corresponding secretary and Leroy Herbst treasurer. The gathering is set for April 26 at the school with all May 8 primary candidates invited.

Ex Health Official Dr F M Oxley Dies at 77

Batavia physician Dr F M Oxley died at 4 25 am at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital after a 52 year medical practice. He taught at UC for 20 years and served as Clermont health commissioner 1952 1956. Survived by two daughters Frances Oxley Florence Channer and grandson Jack Chaner. Funeral Friday at tavia with Oak Hill Cemetery Glendale burial.

Churches Unite In Batavia Holy Week Services

In Batavia community churches plan Holy Week events. An ecumenical service at Batavia Evangelical United Brethren Church led by Rev. Gerald Geiger will include ministers from Taylor Methodist, First Presbyterian, and First Methodist. Good Friday observances at First Presbyterian run noon to 3 p.m. with seven 25 minute devotional periods led by local pastors on The Seven Last Words.

Townsley Lamar Townsley Dies After Service as Zoo President

Everett W. Townsley, president of the Cincinnati Zoo, died Friday at Holmes Hospital. Born in Clermont County, he served in the Spanish American War, studied veterinary medicine, and traveled to Africa and the Amazon. He led the General Protestant Orphan Home and Rotary Club and supported the zoo, with his wife Minnie dead earlier. He is survived by daughter Kathryn Whiting, a brother C W Townsley, and three grandchildren.

Block Factory Damaged In Fire

A Glen Rose block company on Mt. Carmel-Tabasco Road suffered major damage from a Sunday blaze that started in a kerosene fired block dryer. The fire confined to the basement, with $5,000 in damage to the factory and minor apartment damage above. Owner is Simi of Harrison.
