Second School Robbery Hits Goshen School in March

Sheriff Clyde Dericks surveys the Goshen School damage after safe looters broke in on Thursday March 22 and stole $300. Goshen School Board president Lloyd Floyd and superintendent L. G. House stand by the jimmied safe. It marks a second break in five months, following an October incident that netted $600 from three Clermont County buildings.

County Draft Quota Is Cut in Half

The April quota for the Clermont County Selective Service Board will be 13 men for induction and 18 for physicals, announced by clerk William McManus. The prior figures were 25 for induction and 36 for physicals, aligning with a nationwide cut from 80,000 to 40,000 draft entrants next month.

Safety Check For Cars Called Off In Ohio

Safety checks for cars were canceled due to manpower shortages and training needs in civil defense. Earlier data show Batavia inspected 1,042 cars with 191 defects and New Richmond 1,328 cars with 259 defects. In 1950 statewide inspections reached 1,036,065 with 179,721 defects.

Supreme Court Upholds Block on Benguet Case in Ohio

The Ohio Supreme Court ruled last week that two suits by Idonah Slade Perkins of Newwalk Conn. against Benguet Mining Company of Manila and John Haussermann of New Richmond cannot be prosecuted in Ohio. The decision affirms earlier rulings that the action did not arise in Ohio and Benguet was not doing business there, so Ohio lacks jurisdiction.

Boy Burned by Home Blast Leaves Boy Injured in Accident

Tommy Auxier, 12, of Cherry Grove, was seriously burned on his face when a bottle of unknown liquid exploded in a furnace at his home. He received first degree burns at Children's Hospital and was sent home Tuesday afternoon.

Radio Dispatcher and Patrolman Resign in New Richmond

Two officials of the New Richmond Police Department resigned their posts effective immediately. James Johnson the radio dispatcher and Jack Wilson a part time patrolman notified the council over the weekend. Tom Hall volunteered to act as dispatcher until a replacement is hired.

Prosecutor Refuses Charges Over County Library Claim

Clermont County Prosecutor Ray Bradford issued a statement denying charges raised by Carl Vitz chief librarian of the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County about Clermont County lacking a county library. Bradford said officials have always tried to follow the people’s wishes and uphold state law.

Cadiz Man Fatally Crushed By Falling Tree Monday

A Cadiz man died after a tree fell on him on Monday. Clermont County Farm Bureau members heard County Auditor Earl Kincaid discuss road funding issues and possible solutions at a county correlating committee meeting. He noted the share of road mileage and revenue by township, county, state, and villages, plus the impact of the state gas tax and potential remedies such as higher levies or real estate tax. The correlating committee will meet monthly to report back with decisions and problems from their groups.

Elm topples during tree work kills Cadiz man on Glen Este Road

A 62 year old Cadiz resident, Oakley Hennis, was killed when a gust toppled an elm being felled by Davey Tree Surgery crew clearing a power line right of way on Glen Este Road. His son George and foreman Leo Thompson were injured, with George suffering multiple fractures and possible back injury. Emergency responders treated victims. Hennis body taken to Hamilton County morgue, services set for Cadiz.

Soldier Injured In Car Accident Near New Richmond

Pvt. Floyd Jones 22 a New Richmond area soldier home on a weekend pass was injured last Sunday when his car overturned on U S 52 just east of New Richmond. He was taken to Bethesda Hospital for X rays of head and back injuries. Passenger Ellis Black escaped injury.

First Easter Egg Hunt Draws Large Clermont Crowd

About two hundred youths and adults attend the first annual Easter Neg and Treasure hunt at the Frank W. Weaver Post American Legion Grounds in Batavia Heights.
