The Chinese Defenders for World Peace report Cpl. John Johnson formerly of Salt Air was captured in Korea on his birthday December 4, 1950 and held at a Peiping, China POW camp. In a handwritten letter to Mrs. Walter Farrow of Williamsville he describes abundant food and comforts provided by the Reds and asks about his sister Louise.
Batavia adopts the Drunkometer to test intoxication in county cases. In Clermont, 28 tested drivers mostly pleaded guilty or were found guilty. the device is praised for accuracy, reducing false charges and saving taxpayer money while aiming to curb deadly drunk driving.
Two men, William Ayres and Donald Tuggle, posted bond of 500 each on grand larceny and breaking and entering charges after arrest by Sheriff Clyde Dericks for thefts at a Clermont County barn. Leslie Jones received 200 fine and 60 days for petit larceny aiding and abetting breaking and entering. Two Miamisburg youths were placed on probation and another minor sought by Juvenile Court. The crimes involved soybeans bought for 70 and machinery sold for 60.
A Batavia man Paul R. Naegle of Route 4 was fined 50 dollars plus costs with 25 dollars suspended by Mayor J. F. Paschal for improper registration of auto license tags.
Two motorists were fined last week by Mayor Russell Flynn for traffic violations. Elizabeth Scott of Route 2 Georgetown was fined $5 and costs for illegal parking on U S 52. Theodore H. Lyles of Cincinnati was fined $50 and costs after a DUI conviction and jailed when unable to pay.
The Felicity high school band earned enough recognition at the Southwest Ohio Music Festival in Oxford to advance to the state finals scheduled for April 26 at Capital University in Columbus.
Two-vehicle crash on Route 132 near Goshen injures four drivers and passengers Clarence Henderson Philip Tolle Larry Sydor and James Watson. Henderson faces a court hearing on failing to yield. Williamsburg firemen quickly contained a Brown County foundry roof fire and a nearby home blaze saving Hazel Hager’s house. Loss from both fires estimated at $600 to $800.
Sheriff Clyde B. Dericks and Deputy Charles McNutt chase clues in two weekend robberies. Tire tracks near a Williams Corner home mark the only lead as a window lock was sprung Sunday at Clayton Kilb’s residence. About $4,000 in government bonds, $250 cash, roughly $80 from four children's banks and clothing were stolen between 9 a.m. and noon while the Kilbs were in church. Juvenile suspects are believed involved, with muddy footprints and fingerprints found.
Bethel residents urged a State Department of Education inquiry after three school board members called for superintendent John A. Donaldson’s resignation. A Wednesday protest at the Grant Memorial Building led to a vote backing a state investigation into the dismissal and related actions. A telegram from Bethel Route 2 resident Mrs. Paul J. Essex was sent to Columbus officials.
New Richmond Kiwanis club hosted a dinner dance at the Frontier on U S 52 to honor women. Maurice Bernges Kiwanis lieutenant governor Fifth District spoke at the event.
Milford Ohio residents await two new traffic signals to reduce congestion. The plan calls for a light at Wooster Pike and Ohio 126 near the west Milford bridge and another at the five way junction of Main Lila Wallace and Center Streets with US 50. State approval is needed for lights on state highways.
