An 83 year old shut in from the County Home sends Mrs. James Walker a $1 gift for a week's lunch for a local school child. The note, signed Emma Judd, emphasizes giving in the spirit, not amount, as funds dwindle for the lunch program. A wind incident at Newtown Sales and Service narrowly avoids injury to a passerby.
A 4-H Advisors luncheon in Columbus on March 20 honored fall advisors with 5 to 25 years of service. Attendees from Batavia and Clermont County included Mrs. Kemar Dickson Mrs. Charles McGuire W W Hamilton Mrs. John Hall Mrs. Theodore Popp and Miss Mary Evelyn Lamb. Dr Gary Cleveland Myers spoke on investing while a skit A Leaf and a Light was presented by advisors. J A Ashton escorted the group to Columbus.
A county wide safety program backed by the American Legion and State Highway Patrol Auxiliary will begin Monday. Senior students from county high schools will receive motor vehicle law instruction at Batavia Armory from 4 to 6 pm then teach peers. Booklets outlining laws will be distributed.
Eric Meyer 72 a nationally known dog show judge breeder artist and sculptor died from injuries suffered in a collision on U S Route 27 south of Fort Wayne Indiana His mother in law Mrs John M Bricker also died and his wife Marie Bricker Meyer was severely injured The Meyers operated Furore Kennels in Mulberry Meyer a Cincinnati native and Woodward High School graduate had judged dog shows across the country for over four decades with ties to the Cincinnati art world and her husband’s late photographer father J H Meyer. Edgar Barnes and Eunice Reese bound over to the Clermont County Grand Jury on arson. Fire destroyed a five room rental on Elk Lick Road near Batavia March 18. Barnes confessed pouring coal oil and a lighted stove on March 13. They aimed to collect $1,000 insurance. Bond set at 3000 for Barnes and 1500 for Mrs Reese.
The MISSIONAIRES a male quartet from Asbury College Wilmore Kentucky will lead the Goshen Methodist Church service at 10 30 Sunday morning March 30 Their program features Gospel songs hymns spirituals and inspiring testimonies They have sung at Cincinnati Youth for Christ and will also perform at Edenton Methodist Church next Sunday at 9 30 AM
Cliff Pancher completes stocking his new furniture store in the former OPA office storeroom on Main Street Batavia. The shop offers a complete line of furniture and appliances. Mrs. Francis Carlisle and her daughter visit relatives here before moving to Cambridge Ohio.
Clermont Sportsmen Inc will hold their regular meeting at the Clubhouse Thursday evening March 27. First entries may be made in the crew contest. Important policies are to be discussed. All members are requested to attend.

Loveland High School students present the Shamrock Follies of 1947 on Friday and Saturday nights March 28 and 29 in the school auditorium. Proceeds aid the junior and senior classes with acts including The Villain's Last Stand and The Ladies of the Mop plus minstrel numbers and a dancing chorus. Reserved seats available at Spear's Pharmacy Loveland.
Milford officials study a $6000 purchase offer from the lodge trustees for the five acre abandoned 1 0 C F Cemetery and plan to assume $4000 to move 43 graves. Possible uses include park expansion Riverside Park or a new high school.
The Evangelical United Brothers Church in Batavia enters its second week of revival meetings with daily services at 8:00 pm this week except Saturday. The Rev C. E. Fryman of Clough is the speaker and all are invited. Sunday guests at the Hicks home included Mr and Mrs Ed Wheldon and their daughter of Hyde Park.
Clermont County commissioners launched a county wide drive to stop rubbish on roads and highways. The first arrest, Walter Edwards of Williamsburg, was dismissed for insufficient evidence after a hearing. Several Clermont County schools including Batava Beth el Goshen Mt. Carmel-Glen Este Newtonsville and Branch Hill closed due to influenza outbreaks. A Batavia play was postponed to April while the Melody March dance proceeds as planned. Officials urge towns to provide authorized dumping areas and report violators to curb unsanitary conditions and property damage.
Venires for the April term of the Clermont County Common Pleas Court were drawn by Jury Commissioners Carl Burger of Williamsburg and Mrs Mil dred Sellers of Amelia. The first case, Howard Sams vs Em ery, is set for April 7. Grand jury cases await Prosecutor Ray Bradford’s return from Florida. Lulu Miller, widow of White Miller and secretary of the Daughters of America, was injured Saturday when struck by a Pennsylvania freight train.
Judge Harry Britton of Clermont County Common Pleas Court is hospitalized at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati and may undergo a minor operation before resuming duties. In his absence, Judge Joseph Bagby of Georgetown and Judge Alton Brown hear cases.
Harold Frye, 2, son of Rev H L Frye of Felicity wins a year’s Courier subscription. Samuel Strimple takes first prize with a photo of his dog Old Jack and earns $3 plus the subscription. Other month winners include Mrs. R. G. Little of Felicity and Mrs. Ray Shanks of Bantam, Ohio.
Amelia and vicinity churches plan Passion Week services from Tuesday to Friday with varied sermons by Rev. Doyle, Rev. Shirer, and Rev. Bates. Good Friday service at Amelia Methodist Church. Palm Sunday and Easter events include pageants, Kodachrome art projections, and a sunrise service on Easter. Mrs. Lee Gilmer returns for observation at Ohio State Hospital.
