Amelia Rural Carrier Exam Announced

The U S Civil Service Commission announces a rural carrier examination for Amelia Ohio. Applications close April 24 1947 and admission cards will note exam date. Salary on a 30 mile route is 2020 per year plus 20 per mile for each mile over 30. Mrs Grace Moore of Hamersville visited Batavia last Tuesday.

Milford May Organize Chamber of Commerce

Merchants in Milford discuss forming a Chamber of Commerce to coordinate village business activity. A committee led by Charles Rozenweig Rodney L Scott and Russell W Barnard will study chamber operations and plans include hiring a promotional director for joint advertising.

Clean Up Campaign Planned for Batavia May 18 31

Batavia prepares for a two week Clean Up and Paint Up drive led by Mayor A C Munden. A May 2 meeting will organize officers and committees with local groups asked to contribute funds for banners and parades while urging residents to tidy homes and clear vacant lots.

Final meetings of Selective Service Boards 1 and 2 were held at the Batavia joint office on Main Street on March 31. Clerks Martha Minnich and Alluy Liven good remain on duty with closing instructions but no definite date yet set.

Easter Services At Pilgrim Holiness Afton Ohio

Easter week events include nightly 8 pm services at Pilgrim Holiness Church Afton through Easter. Rally Day comes Easter Sunday at 1 30 pm led by Pastor Rev Charles Rutherford. Stonelick Baptist Church offers Resurrection messages Sunday 11 am and 7 45 pm by Rev C W Jessee. Lindale Baptist Church hosts Easter Sunrise Service 6 30 am. A youth program and church meeting for teachers and officers are set for Saturday April 5.

C and O Railroad Seeks to Abandon Ferry Service

Residents of New Richmond Ohio and Kentucky fear loss of the long running ferry operated by the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad after an Interstate Commerce Commission filing to discontinue the New Richmond to New Richmond ferry route. The village staged protests with support from the Kiwanis Club as hearings approach.

Safety Classes Conducted in Clermont County Armory

Two Robberies Hit Newtown Over Two Days

Newtown faced a wave of crime with a holdup and two service station robberies in consecutive days. At Roy Smith station on Route 74, attendant Vernor Gilbert was bound and gagged. six dollars and merchandise including a tire and radios were stolen. Police, led by Chief John Tucker, and investigator Yockey pursued leads while noting a possible hoax regarding the staged attack.

Williamsburg to Host Fourth District VFW Meeting

Williamsburg Post 4897 hosts the 4th District Meeting of the Veterans of Foreign Wars on April 13 1947 at Williamsburg public school and I O O F hall. Eight counties will send delegates. program begins 10 am and runs to about 5 pm with lunch by the VFW Auxiliary. Kerstin O Day Drum Corps leads the morning parade.
