Work started by Pringle Construction Co of Batavia on Route 74 excavation with a single 100 yard per day shovel powered by gasoline. Main contractor A C Pickelheimer from Newtonsville oversees bridges while Pringle handles excavation and Manley Hill handles concrete and culverts. Progress aims to keep to schedule and provide a Cincinnati access. A future link from Olive Branch past Highland Park to Brazier could connect Route 74 with Grant Highway.

Detour Outlined For Route 74 Rebuild In Ohio
A detour plan for Route 74 from the Hamilton county line into Clermont County to Olive Branch spans five and a half miles. The preferred route follows the East Fork to Milford and Plainville, crossing the river to Newtown, with alternatives via Main Street water street Stonelick Route 50 Perintown Milford Brazier and Clough Pike. Roads are under repair for the occasion and buses will use the primary detour during a several month duration.

Dimmitt Elwood South, longtime Bethel resident and son of Ezekiel and Catherine South, died at his North Charity Street home. Born August 16, 1858, in Bethel, he worked in Washington and at Bethel as rural mail carrier and rail agent. Survived by widow and three children, services held Monday with K P and Masonic rites, burial in Bethel’s new cemetery. An advertisement follows for an International two 4 in bottom tractor plow.
