Bethel girls beat Williamsburg 48 to 18 in the Bata via Armory final. Batavia town team falls to Amelia 36 to 31 in another tournament result.

Batavia Armory closes three day county basketball tourney

Clermont county season ends with a three day tournament at the Batavia armory. Large crowds, satisfactory receipts, and strong sportsmanship marked games across communities. Final scores show Bethel, Williamsburg, Milford, New Richmond, Moscow, Ow ensville, Felicity, Amelia, Goshen, Batavia, and others competing. Batavia and Amelia split a preliminary. Amelia edged Batavia 36 to 31 in that game.

Standstill on Moscow Central School Site

Work on the Moscow centralized school building stalls after a 1954 bond issue of 54000 dollars. The school board splits over site choice with three favoring the Kayser distillery grounds and two preferring a four acre nearby plot. The state has withdrawn support until a site is settled and completion deadline nears with no progress.

Two Clermont Gold Star Mothers Eligible for European Trip

The American Legion of Ohio and Clermont County posts list two Clermont mothers eligible to visit European battlefields to honor sons lost in World War I. Eva Lindsey of Bethel will go next year. Rosa Sharits of Lerado will not travel.

Mrs David Points of Water Street Dies After Illness

Mrs David Points of Water Street died at her home Wednesday after a long illness and a stroke. She leaves her husband. Funeral services are Friday with burial in Citizens Cemetery.

Judge C H Woodmansee of Clermont County Probate Court suffered a paralysis stroke at his Felicity home on Saturday and again later that day but showed improvement in the evening Doctors treated him and he is expected to return to office soon He had been appointed to fill a vacancy and later elected to a four year term in 1928

New Fire Company organized in Batavia

Batavia forms a new fire company at the Lewis Motor Co salesroom in West Batavia. Officers include Chief H F Buerkle, President Geo Gregg, Treasurer A C Nash, and Secretary J M Patchell. Howe Fire Engine Co of Indiana aided plans to raise funds via public subscription to buy a new engine. outcome depends on funds raised.

Goshen Township Bond Approved for School Construction

The Goshen Township Centralized Rural School District bond issue, voter approved in November, received approval from Attorney General Gilbert Bettman and is funded by the State Teachers Retirement System Retirement Board. Construction is progressing and the new facilities will be ready at the start of the next school year. Goshen township claims top school status in the county.

State Truck Wreck Near County Home Causes Injuries

A Ford truck No 836 driven by Tom Houser with Tom Hewitt and Hugh McAfee collided after veering near the edge and striking a telephone pole. Hewitt broke a leg, McAfee suffered a bruised arm, Houser was bruised. The truck wheel was mashed. Geo Webb drove a Ford touring car. Peter Ballinger and Fred Croswell supervise the unit.

Robbery in Batavia After Deathbed Home Invasion

Last week while Chas G H Weaver lay dead at Batavia the pike west of town saw a home invasion. The thief turned beds and drawers, scattered paper, and searched for hidden valuables before leaving. No clue to the culprit.

Neighbors and friends gathered at the Schuberts to celebrate their 15th wedding anniversary last Monday evening. Attending were Rev. Three Men Hurt When Freight Hits Car At Williamsburg Crossing

On Thursday at 5 p m a double header freight train struck a Chevrolet coupe carrying Rob ert Kiefer 18 Frank Clemons 40 and Robert Smith 18 all Marathon employees of the Williamsburg Shoe Factory The collision dragged the car about 50 feet smashing it to splinters and left Clemons and Kiefer with serious injuries while Smith sustained a scalp wound and other bruises Doctors treated them at home and their condition was still uncertain as press time The crossing reportedly had no signals from the railroad while other crossings in town did The men had just quit work and were crossing the tracks to reach town

Sunday School Mourns Loss of Ora Lakemire

The Sunday school mourns the death of Ora Lakemire president of the C I C. She was in class last Sunday and the church paid tribute to her service. Funeral from the church Tuesday afternoon. Prayer meetings continue Wednesdays. The class held cottage prayer at Mrs. Walter Kain's home. Township convention at Amelia Baptist church had good attendance and program. Next Sunday at 7 pm the Sunday school will lead evening service with new song books. The young people will have a service after church.

Mrs Lillie Watson Passes in Madisonville

Mrs. Lillie Watson formerly of Marathon died March 9 at the home of her daughter Mrs. Robert Genet in Madisonville. Her body was moved to the Genet home in Marathon for viewing and burial is set for Tuesday at Mt. Crab beside her husband who died Sept 29, 1927.

Batavia to hire new street commissioner for spring road repairs

At the Batavia town meeting March 4 Henry Reynolds was named street commissioner effective April 1. The council plans extensive repairs to fill numerous holes and consider oiling or tarvia with chip paving. C S Slade resigned as clerk also effective April 1. J M Patchell becomes councilman replacing Orville Halbisch. Added are April to June inspection dates for O E S with Clara Robuck, listing towns and dates to be prepared.

New M. E. Church to Rise Near Grant Home in Pt Pleasant

Pt Pleasant in Clermont county will see a new M E Church replacing the one lost to fire. The church will stand on the street beside the U S Grant home and the old building is being razed. Ground will be broken at once. Grant Park is being prepared for summer as tourists visit in large numbers.

Amelia florist showcases vast gladiolus operation

John Pommert of Amelia runs about 100000 gladiolus bulbs ready for planting with 60000 sprouting in boxes and thousands more in storage. He is among Ohio’s largest gladiolus producers and shared his growing methods at a Batavia Garden Club meeting.

Clermont County Agricultural Society directors met March 12 at Owensville hotel approving premium list revisions and a sizable 4 H club appropriation. Plans for new features were laid as the 1930 fair was billed bigger and better than before. Mrs Ora Lakemire Dies After Gall Stone Surgery

Mrs Ora Lakemire died Saturday night in a Cincinnati hospital after gall stone surgery. A prominent M E Church and Sunday school member, she had been in usual health before the operation. Funeral was held Tuesday. A husband and one son survive her.

Milton Ireton Dies After Illness in Bethel

Milton Ireton formerly of Elklick died at his Bethel home after several weeks of illness. He left the farm three years ago for Bethel where he made many friends. A widow survives him. Burial in Batavia Union cemetery Sunday.

Seed corn supply being organized in Clermont county

Clermont county farmers seek seed corn for the year as germination tests prove unreliable. County Agent Wilson is establishing a seed corn service and compiling a list of satisfactory germination seed available locally. Farmers with seed to sell should notify the office with variety and bushel amount to be listed.
