New Richmond finances face cuts after a special March 22 election defeated the general fund operating levy. The council may trim at least 50 000 from the 1984 budget amid police staffing questions as residents opposed higher taxes and the state income tax rise prompted discussions of further cuts.
A bulk farmers market with 70 by 300 foot metal building is planned near Mt Moriah Drive off Ohio 125 and I-275. McClorey seeks zoning changes to permit outdoor sales and year round operation. long and short term booths, lighting, heating, and multi tenant spaces are proposed. References to adjacent businesses and zoning actions in Union and Goshen townships are noted as final decisions await trustees and boards.
The Clermont Court Adult Probation Department will enforce rules strictly for Shirley Yeary and other probationers. Yeary, 37, of Bata'a, sued the department and officer Bob Bateman, claiming Bateman threatened to revoke her probation if she cashed welfare checks for herself and her 13-year-old daughter.
Milford City Council approved crafting an ordinance to require child safety seats for eligible youngsters, aligning the new state law for under four year olds and under 40 pounds. The measure envisions fines of 10 dollars for violations, with court costs and fines suspended if a safety seat is purchased. Milford police will not inspect every car but may note if a child is not in a seat during traffic stops. The solicitor will also draft DUI law changes to close loopholes.
Dean Dr. Robert W. Flinchbaugh of Clermont College must persuade the Ohio Board of Regents by April 15 to approve at least two of four proposed new degrees. Regents tabled the proposals at a March 18 meeting, impressed by business support, and Flinchbaugh aims to recruit more advocates from industry and communities. Enrollments and labor demand push for programs in computer assisted design and computer technology, with potential robotics and laser optics components. The college expects enrollment growth and notes past reductions in degree offerings.
