Fires cause 11000 in Clermont County damage
Two fires Sunday and Monday in Clermont County caused about 11000 in damages. The Taylor Cafe on Rt 28 near Goshen was destroyed, owner Taylor McIntosh smelling smoke woke at 3 am. Loveland firefighters faced water shortage. A nearby house and garage were saved. The cafe was valued at 9000 and once known as Hall’s Chicken Dinner Place. A second fire at Sam T Bateman’s Milford home caused 2000 in damage, confined to the attic and surrounding areas, detected around 3:45 pm. Bateman, a Clermont County Farm Bureau Insurance agent and Milford Board of Education clerk, reported the fire and losses.

Batavia High School sophomore class presents a two hour magic show in the school auditorium on Friday March 24 featuring Harold Nichols and his company. The event includes four acts with new mysteries and a world premier illusion built by the Industrial Arts Class under Mr. Edmund Parrott. Special attractions include the world’s largest coke bottle a mind reading act and an oriental fantasy The Curse of Fujiyama with decapitation and floating lady illusions. George Young Sentenced to Penitentiary for sodomy
George Young of New Richmond was sent to the Ohio State Penitentiary to serve one to twenty years after conviction for sodomy involving a blind New Richmond woman and another youth, Donald Snider Jr. He was tried November 7 in Clermont County Common Pleas Court, sent to Lima State Hospital for sanity review, then returned for sentencing by Judge Harry Britton on March 15.
