Bethel Resident E A Day Commits Suicide at Home

E A Day 65 a prominent Bethel resident killed himself Thursday morning using a double barreled shotgun in his garage on North Charity street. His wife found him after lunch and he lay in a pool of blood. Day built about twenty five homes and was wealthy. He leaves a wife two sisters two nephews and four nieces no children. Funeral services were held Sunday at the Christian Church with interment at Feesburg.

Tax Collections Rise 14 Percent in March 1–21 Period

Treasury records show income tax intake from March 1 to 21 totaling $10,195,825.74, up from $8,936,217.11 a year earlier. The gain equals $1,259,608.63, a 14 percent rise.

Man and Wife In Jail On Whiskey Charge

Forrest W. Tucker state officer arrested Mrs Alta Barkley of Bethel aged 40 mother of six on possession of untaxed whiskey 28 pints seized and held by the courts She appeared before Judge Charles White for a hearing Tuesday Bond 500 Her husband Charles Barkley is jailed serving an 80 day sentence and a 200 day fine on a similar charge Mrs Barkley later pleaded not guilty Two witnesses were examined the court gave a five day deferred sentence to leave the county If she refuses she will be sentenced and treated as a prisoner

Ohio CCC enrollment plan announced for April period

Four thousand forty eight Ohio men will be enrolled in the Civilian Conservation Corps from April 1 to 20. Felicity Residents Affected by Illness and Death

Mrs. Jessie Carley of Felicity was taken to Bethesda Hospital with appendicitis on Wednesday. Henry Watkins, 75, died at his Felicity home on Wednesday morning, March 16. Funeral set for March 18 at 2 PM at Broadwell Funeral Home. Survived by two daughters Mrs. Virgil Swope and Miss Mary Watkins.

Seal Sales Rise Across Brown County District Meeting

H. D. West of Georgetown presided as representatives from Adams Brown Warren Clinton and Highland counties met to report increases in 1937 Christmas Seal sales. Clermont County saw the largest rise at 167 percent with Mrs. Adelaide T. Jones and others from the Clermont Tuberculosis and Health Association among speakers.

County Ball League Plans for Clermont County Baseball

Clermont County fans may see their teams in action again this year. A meeting is set for Friday evening March 25 at 8 P M in Batavia Court House Conference Room to organize the league. The plan reverts to earlier days with no player payment restrictions and no limits on player sources. A trophy donated by a county sportsman will crown fall champions. Eight to ten teams from Goshen Williamsville Felicity Owensville Newtonsville Amelia Edenton Bethel Mt. Carmel Williamsburg Batavia Laurel Milford Marathon are invited. Batavia United Brethren Church marks the eleventh anniversary of its new building dedication the reopening and the new Hammond organ with a March 27 all day program. Frank E Altman formerly of Felicity died suddenly Saturday after a minor operation at Bethesda Hospital. Masonic services were held at Bethlehem M E Church in Cincinnati on Tuesday night. Funeral services are set for today at Broadwell Funeral Home in Felicity at 2 P M. He left a widow Eva Howe Altman and one son Frank Jr.

Felicity Club Presents The Opera Recital at Church

The Felicity Music Club will present its March recital on March 25 at 7:45 PM in the Methodist Church. Irene Shaw chairs the concert with Marie Glasser as co chair. Batavia Guard Company Receives High Marks in Federal Inspection

The 2nd Battalion 147th Infantry National Guard unit at Batavia underwent a federal annual inspection on Thursday. New company commander Lt Franklin D. Morrison was installed after Lt Forrest E. Ely’s promotion. Inspectors praised the supply room, records, and the high calibre personnel including several local instructors, merchants, and engineers.
