The Winchester basketball team lost to Portsmouth several days ago marking their second defeat of the season. Winchester will miss the Clermont tournament this year.
State Highway Commissioner Herrick halted summer road work despite funds. Hon. C. C. Kearns petitioned Governor Davis in Columbus, gained federal support, and secured Herrick’s order to restore funds for Clermont county and other areas. D. Q. Morrow aided the effort in the Sixth District.
Columbus officials announce strict enforcement of the Griswold act two years after enactment. Chief Inspector Samuel Lindsey says all weight must be net, excluding boxes wood paper rope and wrapping. Dealers have faced fines up to 600 for short weights and examples include lard weighed 15 ounces per pound.
Two recent sales at the local warehouse drew buyers from across the region. The Tuesday old tobacco sale reported no rejects and strong prices, while Friday’s sale featured high prices on quality crops. Totals show March 15 offerings 28,825 lbs with 28,565 sold at average 11.68. March 18 offerings 65,429 lbs with 47,426 sold at average 17.70.
Farmers here contributed a car load of corn for European suffering people. A fund is needed to cover shipping costs and an appeal is made to residents to donate. Contributions accepted at Dana's drug store in Loveland.

Obituary for Margaret Jane Davidson Marsh born February 2 1842 wife of L B Marsh. She died March 8 1921 after a brief illness leaving six children and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She joined the Williamsboro camp meeting church young and lived a devout life. Her home welcomed friends and she was active in church and charity, a Dorcas figure in the community. The family extends thanks to Rev T F and others for support during her illness and funeral.
Health Commissioner Ireton and County Nurse Mrs Heidlebaugh have been in New Richmond for two weeks inspecting students and report excellent health. They expect one more week to complete the duties while a diphtheria case has appeared in Monterey.
In this obituary from a rural Ohio community, Mrs. Mary A Good born April 25 1801 in Jackson township Clermont county dies January 18 1921 at the Cedars near Greenberry. She left two sons William Spradlin Lester R and a daughter Edna later Mrs Niehof. Funeral at Greenberry Chapel with Rev T F Smith and N T Daily directing. Interment Hutchinson cemetery.
Last Friday morning a cylinder head blew at the C G P power house killing three men. Walter Griseel, an engineer, was badly burned and cut while Paul Taylor, an oiler, suffered severe facial burns endangering his sight. A section of the head pierced the roof. Low water pressure was blamed. They received medical aid and were sent to the hospital. The plant shut down for about two hours and then resumed operation.
The Brown County grand jury, meeting last week, filed a report with eighteen indictments. Seven allege burglary by James C Shaw alias Charles R Clark, seven by Harry Johnson, and four sealed. Shaw and Johnson are jailed for burglarizing seven Bardinia stores. The panel found no conclusive evidence on the Amanda Wahl assault near Mt Crab last July 17, so no indictments.
Sheriff New and a deputy foiled a jail escape at Georgetown by stopping a delivery and preventing inmates from sawing bars and cutting the window screen. The escape plan was exposed when criminals named Moore the jail barber confessed and was jailed on 2600 bond. Plier and saw purchases were traced to local merchants.
Griggsville Illinois March 14 editor Courier confirms receipt of a 2.50 check from Rev H O Fagin a long time subscriber. He notes GOP re election rhetoric spreading nationwide and recalls Bob Ingersol speech about Pike County Illinois Texas and Republican strength. He wishes Clermont friends a prosperous season.
The county school committee met in Milford to outline fair exhibits for rural and graded schools. Rural exhibits split from graded, with $40 and $60 premiums, cash prizes for equipment, and first prizes of 20 for rural and 25 for graded. Drawing prizes include five maps and five freehand drawings, plus two compositions. Agriculture drawings and seed testing receive 5, five math problems get 5. Graded schools offer a general exhibit of English compositions, best note books, geometry and science drawing, manual training and domestic science premiums, with elementary rural rules matching.
John W. Newman and Q. T. Gatewood Kansas Lexington March 14 report plans to expand the Burley Tobacco Growers Association across this region and neighboring States. They will direct campaign through the summer to boost membership in hopes of joining any marketing plan considered by Bernard Baruch, Robert W. English Bing ham, and Aaron Sapiro the tobacco question figures.
Robbers broke into the Farm ore Bank at Highland Ohio early today and took 1800 dollars in currency and 700 to 800 dollars in small change. The article notes banks nearby were not molested and mentions electric burglar alarm and search lights with a night watchman at Batavia bank as a safeguard.

The morning program opens at 9 30 with America and an address by Rev A T Smith followed by sessions on history teaching and music by Milford and New Richmond Glee Clubs. Afternoon activities begin at 1 with further talks on Teacher Training and concluding songs with the New Richmond Glee Club. Laurence Quest A M directs the School Affiliation University of Cincinnati program.

Columbus Ohio The State Tax Commission vetoed the proposal for reappraising real estate in sixty counties at 1910 values by a 4 to 2 vote. Governor Davis supported deferral until the General Assembly sets a taxation policy. Republicans Forney and Ryan voted yes, Democrat Cassidy voted no.
