Citizensbank Wins 1972 Grand Award in Cincinnati Area

Citizensbank at 333 Main St Batavia received the 1972 Grand Award from the Greater Cincinnati Beautiful Committee at the annual awards luncheon in the Cincinnati Club. The bank was honored for remodeling an old colonial building into its current offices. Charles Sawyer received a distinguished service award for aiding riverfront park efforts after contributing 1 million dollars to purchase 14.5 acres and help secure a federal grant for park development.

Double Jeopardy Ruling Sought In County Court

Attorney Charles Tekulve urged Judge Stephen Durkee to rule on a double jeopardy question in the Michael D. Mains case, arguing no factual dispute exists and a judge should decide. Mains, 19, faces vehicular homicide for a November 1972 Williamsville death. a prior jury deadlocked on the same charge and a new trial ordered.

Batavia Man Charged In Traffic Accident

James Duncan a 46 year old Batavia resident was charged with reckless operation and DWI after his car veered across Main Street striking a parked car and destroying the vehicle he drove. passenger Randy Helton 11 suffered facial and leg cuts and loss of teeth and was hospitalized. Police noted Duncan faced five prior charges including DWI. the incident occurred at 9 25 p m on Monday near Fifth Street and Main Street with about 1000 dollars in damage to the parked auto.

Batavia resident Mrs Helen Siereveld has been nominated to the Council on Aging of the Cincinnati Area board for a three year term. Clermont County Appoints Public Defender Directors

Clermont County creates a public defender program with Melvin H. Reifin directing and Robert A. Linder as assistant. Reifin, at 233 Main Street Batavia, will earn 8000 dollars yearly while Linder receives 5000. A part time secretary at 3500 is planned funded by a federal grant through Ohio Development. The first case assigned by Judge Louis Schwartz is set for today.
