Bethel Girls Win County Basketball Finals Bethel 39 Batavia 20

The Girls County Basketball Tournament opened at Bethel and closed Monday night with Batavia and Bethel in the finals. Bethel won 39 to 20 as games drew countywide interest. The Bethel gym provided good seating and space for fair play and crowds. Awards went to Batavia for runner up with bouquets for sportsmanship. The Batavia High School Band will give a concert at Batavia town hall on Wednesday March 9.

Verdict of Guilty in Liquor Sales Case

W. H. Barker of Batavia township was tried in the common pleas court on an indictment charging selling intoxicating liquor. A guilty verdict was rendered, his fifth conviction. The penalty ranges from one to five years in the penitentiary and a fine of 100 to 2000 dollars. He is said to be 80 years old.

Stabbed man dies in St Martins. arrest made

Chas Pierce of St Martins was stabbed by Frank Doss of Blanches ter this afternoon and died shortly after. Sheriff Mc Collum of Georgetown holds Doss in custody. Coroner visited the scene. Doss was reportedly intoxicated at the time of the assault.

Burley Tobacco Givers Cooperative to Issue Stock Records

On Wednesday March 2 the Burley Tobacco Givers Cooperative Association will hold stock records and stock certificates at receiving plants where members delivered tobacco. The records will remain for several days so all members can retrieve their stock and warehouse balance across district warehousing corporations.

Funeral for 5 war Veteran Fred Jenike Held

Fred Jenike a veteran, died leaving a home to his mother and faithful health, respected citizen. Funeral services were conducted with Rev Stafford, burial at the cemetery with floral tributes and pallbearers Jesse Anderson and EK Peter. Detroit report shows Chevrolet Motor Company moved 289,575 carloads and 208,152,247 pounds of LTL freight with a total freight bill of 34,805,556.86 dollars for inbound and outbound shipments to 14 plants. County Commissioners Set March 12 Meeting Actions

County Commissioners met March 12 and approved bills and allocations for road repair. They transferred funds and listed payments including labor costs, naming specific charges such as Arcwatersey and Brown with amounts around 200.
