The essay contest encourages local home buying by urging residents to keep dollars in Clermont County. Submissions from schools are sent to Batavia and then to Cincinnati judges for awards. Winning essays will appear in county papers within two weeks.
The Ohio State tax commission reports a fourfold rise in Clermont county public utility valuations for 1924, raising taxes this year by 117 810 while the county’s total tax duplicate grows only 28 430. The article notes consumers may bear higher rates as utilities are taxed closer to true value and lists 1924 and 1928 valuations, alongside county average tax rates. Also covers local club activities and social events in East Fork and Marathon communities.
The Producers Cooperative Commission Association opened at Union Stock Yards Cincinnati Ohio on February 10 and has grown weekly. It now handles 14 percent of stock, double the first week’s 7 percent. As a member of the National Organization it operates as a cooperative, refunding profits to members, and invites shippers to consign stock to boost their business.
The Batavia Legion Frank W. Weaver Post drew a large audience Monday evening at the Armory for a fine radio program broadcast from Columbus. Refreshments were enjoyed by all. The legion is strong in the district and continues to grow.

Batavia Woman's Club schedules a Saturday gathering hosted by Mrs F A Treton with Children’s Day events and memories of past papers. The program features Mrs P F Jamieson on Paper Foster Parents and Mrs R Rush Pageant, plus additional notes on комнату and upkeep efforts.

In Clermont the Court of Common Pleas hears Jess Motzer vs. Clermont County Commissioners for damages after an embankment fall at Shaylor creek. Defendants are the commissioners, making taxpayers potential defendants. 20 Brown County jurors will be impaneled and 12 chosen to try the case. locals watch to see what the commissioners owe for protection.
Batavia Masonic lodge reports growing membership with two candidates achieving the Fellow Craft degree Saturday night. Master Mason’s degree set for April 11, with April 18 inspection and work. Inspector Kress to visit, urging good attendance per Master E R Ungelheum.
Sheriff Croswell with deputies Daw son Ora Malott and constable C M Long raided Joe Gessendorf on Ten Mile Saturday. They found seven barrels of mash ready for distilling. Joe and two gallons were taken to Batavia and brought before Mayor Larkin. Plea of not guilty entered, trial set for today. This marks the nineteenth raid on Joe, but the officers seized the goods this time.
Forty friends gathered at Mrs. Charles Violet’s home last Friday to celebrate her birthday. The evening featured a splendid lunch and cheerful good wishes for many returns of the day.
Ladies' Aid of Amelia Baptist church holds a bazaar and chicken supper at the Amelia town hall on April 11. Bazaar starts at 2 PM, supper served 5 to 8 PM. Supper 35 cents lunch 10 cents. Everyone invited.
Susan Daugherty Frazier born June 138 1860 died March 6 1925 was sister to William Stultz of Texas and wife to William J Frazier and later Thomas D Daugherty. She left three children Nellie Long Thomas G Frazier and Francis M Frazier eight grandchildren one great grandchild and a years long battle with asthma. Funeral held March 9 at M E church Williamsburg with ministers Browning and Lippert. Card of Thanks from Francis Frazier and Thomas Frazier expresses gratitude to mourners and helpers.
Revival meetings at Newtonsville M. E. Church led by Rev. James of Owensville and assisted by Rev. Browning of Williamsburg added 41 new members. The M. E. Sunday school split into red and blue sides. 75 new members joined, led by the reds, with a communal chicken supper for winners. The I O C F lodge is booming, adding twenty new members in recent months, mostly young men, with prospects for more before spring.
The cantata Ruth was presented Monday evening at the town hall under the direction of Mr and Mrs William Duning of Cincinnati and the Batavia Women's Club. A large appreciative audience saw a fine performance with all parts well rendered. Net proceeds support the Batavia library.
State of Ohio brings indictment against Jos Woodruff for cutting with intent to kill Lou Hiles at a Neville dance on January 1. The dispute stemmed from money matters as 65 witnesses prepare to testify. The crowded courtroom features Judge Chase White with prosecutors Garland, Britton, Speidel, and defense counsel Hennessy amid Neville and surrounding residents.
Surveying is under way for the remaining four and a half miles between Bethel and Felicity. Last year four and a half miles from Felicity toward Bethel were rebuilt, with plans to widen to sixteen feet and turn the road over to the State upon completion. The project will create a continuous improved route from Grant Highway to the Atlantic-Pacific Highway between Bethel and Chile. Frank Galbreath of the State Highway Department leads the work.
Miss Minnie May Hardy formerly of Goshen Ohio now in Washington D C hosted the Ohio Girls Club annual reception for sponsor Mrs Frank B Willis at her Vermont Avenue home The Washington Star notes the event with decorations ferns palms red carnations and 100 guests in attendance Senator Frank B Willis and Mrs Simeon Fess spoke and Mrs Wayne B Wheeler sang feeds were served.
The Clermont County annual Farm Bureau and Clermont Co operative Association meeting will be at Town Hall Batavia Ohio on Tuesday March 24 1925 Proceedings start 10 09 A M with reorganization and 1 15 P M election of directors and a talk by P O Wilson General Manager Cincinnati Producers Cooperative Commission Association The message invites all residents to attend with their families and neighbors to strengthen the Farm Bureau and purchasing power.
Marathon Grange will meet Friday evening March 20 with a program arranged by Mrs. Lillie Fomorin and Mrs. Holland. The event includes song by Grange, roll call, spring limericks, talks on Congress and a woman’s time, papers on hospitality, music, readings, a short discussion, and a charade by Marathon Humdingers.
