Murder case dominates Hillsboro Common Pleas Court

The Hillsboro Common Pleas Court occupied last week with the Bo murder case. Crowded courtrooms, long jury selection, and motions for change of venue marked the proceedings. Prosecution by Harold Predmore and D Q Morrow faced defense by H S Pulse as arguments on venue and jury segregation played out before Judge McBride.

Peebles poultryman culls 6000 in hatchery drive

B B Wright, a noted Peebles poultry man, personally culled and handed 6000 head of poultry in the accredited hatchery movement started in fall in Ohio. County Board of Health meeting March 9 adopted resolutions urging the State Health Department to investigate Batavia and New Richmond public water supplies as impure and dangerous. Prof Crabtree provided a radio at Bethel School for inaugural ceremonies. Numerous local notices follow including marriages, visits, and community events.

Batavia town plans street repairs funded by property owners with 51 percent approval, plus use of auto license funds. Fire destroys a farm barn south of Batavia, killing livestock. no clue on cause. N W A R Co. consumes large water volumes for engines, prompting pumping capacity upgrades. Clermont County girls basketball tournament set for March 28 in Williamsburg with strong local participation and expected large crowds.

Obituary of Matilda Engelage of Williamsburg Ohio

Matilda Engelage 77 died February 26 1925 after four weeks illness at her Williamsburg Ohio home. Born January 10 1848 in Cincinnati she was lifelong Lutheran. She married Frederick Engelage September 2 1865 and had nine children, six surviving. Survived by Frederick August and Hattie Foster of Williamsburg A J Geist of Rossmoyne A F Wilkens of Pleasant Ridge and Robert F Engelage of Loveland with several grandchildren. She moved from Cincinnati to a farm near Williamsburg in 1870 then to the village. Her husband died February 24 1901. A first great grandchild William Ellis Jr. brought joy in late months. Card of Thanks from the family expresses gratitude for support during illness and loss.

Community Activities Highlight Batavia March Events

The County Oratorical Contest and Teachers Association meet in Batavia on March 21 with morning teacher programs and afternoon contest events. Also noted is the New Richmond Home and School League chicken supper profits, Lyceum entertainment on March 13, and community drive planning for a gymnasium. Clermont County Livestock Association holds its annual meeting March 24 with Farm Bureau directors elected. Local painters Kain and Halbisch finish the treasurer’s room and work on the jail interior.

East Hill Farm Woman's Club Meets for St. Patrick Topics

The East Hill Farm Woman's Club met March 5 at Mrs A Elion's home with leader Mrs Buer kle presiding. Members discussed Irish songs music and the Life of St Patrick with papers read by Katherine Maloney and Mrs Krantz who won an Irish contest. Ruth cantata performed by Cincinnati Conservatory soloists under Mr and Mrs William Duning at Batavia Town Hall. Batavia Woman's Club funds library upkeep with proceeds. Synopsis covers Elimelech Naomi Mahlon Chillon Ruth Orpah and Ruths pledge to Naomi. Tickets 50 cents adults 25 cents children.

Captain Frank White 87th Birthday Highlights Batavia Esteemed Pioneer

Captain Frank White, a longtime Batavia resident and veteran, celebrated his 87th birthday at home with his son Judge Charles White and family. He has lived in Batavia for about 81 years, served four years in the army, spent two years in Williamsburg, and a short time out west. Widely admired, he supports town improvements and is hoped to reach a 100th birthday with many friends sending best wishes.
