Veterans of the 69th Ohio Mourn Two Deaths in Illinois and Ohio

Two veterans from the 69th Ohio died recently. Michael Beckelheimer of Bethel died at his home in his 79th year after paralysis and was buried by the G A R ritual. Oliver Straight, formerly of Bethel and resident of Pullman Illinois, died at about 65 from apoplexy after a period of good health.

Death of Williamsburg Civil War Veteran Walker

Hillary W. Walker of Williamsburg died at home after a week long ailment from typhoid fever. A lifelong resident and prominent G A R member, he served in the Civil War and was an officer of the post. Funeral set for Thursday at 1 30 PM from the M E church. He leaves a widow and was engaged in the insurance business.

Retrial of Rosenfels Damage Case Against B&O Railroad

Mrs Lilian Rosenfels sued the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad for 32000 in damages from injuries in a collision while a passenger. The case, tried before Judge Bambach with a jury, followed a prior 10000 verdict and new trial ruling, ending with an 8000 verdict for the plaintiff.

Dr McClelland Arrested in Seattle for Family Non support

Sheriff Teal brought back Dr McClelland held on failure to provide for his family. The Seattle arrest followed a Clermont telegram. He is a dentist with a Seattle practice, connected to Sam Leever and David Kirgan, with a contested divorce and $800 bond posted by his father at a Batavia preliminary hearing.

Clermont residents recover from serious injuries in recent months

The Courier reports Clermonters injured at various events last months are recovering. Ed Landerman of Loveland fell 40 feet from a telephone pole and walks with crutches. Harry Scott of Milford lost both legs but survives and improves. William Stouder of Goshen recovers from arm amputation. Henry Reynolds of this place heals from a broken leg with bone exposure. Hiram Cade of this place heals after fingertip injury. A ten year old Conte child near Loveland survives a severe fall. Cyclone injuries at Brinkeely Arkansas involve Arthur Rose and others from Clermont.

Felicity Times editor Grant Purkiser dies at 42

Clermont county mourns Felicity Times editor Grant Purkiser who died from heart failure at age 42. He rebuilt the paper about twelve years ago, earning respect as a hard working, community minded citizen. Survived by a widow and children, his funeral was conducted by Masons Odd Fellows and Knights with many floral tributes.

DuBrul Sheep Claim Case Reverses in Supreme Court

The Ohio Supreme Court reversed a lower ruling in State of Ohio vs. O N DuBrul over a 600 claim for sheep killed by dogs. DuBrul, once paid, funded a wine supper. investigations questioned wool prices and claims. He was convicted on charges of obtaining money under false pretenses and sentenced to three years, with a stay until appeal.

Dry County Results and Upcoming Vote Under Rose Law

Secretary Carmi A Thompson reports 57 dry counties and nine wet among 66 voting counties. Saloons affected total 1841. dry majority 96,182. Wet counties remaining include Allen, Defiance, Fairfield, Huron, Lorain, Merger, Richland, Seneca and Shelby. Clark County to vote March 29.

Widow of George Casey Dies After Eight-Year Illness

The long afflicted widow of George Casey, mother of Mrs. Phares of Amelia, died after eight years as an invalid from a hip injury. A refined, Christian Episcopal church member, she was attended by relatives and friends, and funeral rites by Rev. E Burdsall were held under church forms. Her remains lie beside her husband in Spring Grove. she leaves two daughters, two sisters and four grandchildren.

Captured. John L. Moore Honored On 71st Birthday

John L. Moore, a veteran grocer, hosted and was welcomed by friends who formed a volunteer group to celebrate his 71st birthday. The gathering, full of conversation, games, music, and laughter, included Mr. Moore’s relatives and friends such as J. L. and Mrs. Brown, Joseph and Mrs. Hogan, with others unnamed.

Arbor Day Designated for April 16 Proclaimed

A new Arbor Day designation, set for April 16, was announced with a forthcoming proclamation urging lovers of nature to plant a tree that day. School Commissioner Jones will issue an Arbor Day manual containing planting guidance for future generations.

State to repay dry counties tax portion totaling sixteen thousand

Because many saloonists left dry counties, sixteen thousand dollars must be returned. The state portion of taxes paid into the treasury by county auditors in counties that ended liquor traffic will be refunded. Dry counties will keep seven tenths. the state covers three tenths.

Assessors celebrate reduced labor from birth and death reporting

Township assessors applaud a new law requiring physicians to register births and undertakers to report deaths. Records go to county authorities and then to the State monthly, replacing the former annual reporting by assessors who are already busy with property listings.
