City hall was packed as audiences from neighboring towns enjoyed a splendid program. The Masonic band from Cincinnati and the Williamsburg saxophone quartet joined Batavia’s own group in a diverse night of Bohemian Girl arias, baritone and cornet solos, a Gypsy Chorus, and a humorous elocution piece. Critics hailed the event as the finest musical entertainment yet seen in Batavia.

Death of Former Batavian Resident Townsley
Brown Townsley formerly of Batavia and long time Lebanon resident died at his daughter’s home on Sunday morning in his 84th year. Born in Batavia he learned carpentry and operated the old water mill below town. Remains were brought home for interment after brief graveside services. He was brother to Smith Townsley and the late Charles Townsley.
