Benson named county Crusade co chair for 1967

Rev. John M. Benson of Amelia is appointed co chair of the Clermont County Educational Fund Raising Cancer Crusade for 1967. He selects Judge John D. Erhardt as his co chair and Special Legal Gifts chairman. The pair lead recruitment, aiming to reach every home in the county.

Batavia Adopts Junk Car Ban and Police Pay Raise

Batavia Council approved an ordinance banning junk cars with a $50 first offense and up to $100 for later violations. A separate pay ordinance raised police salaries to $7000 for the chief, $6500 for the lieutenant, and $5500 for patrolmen.

Explorers Earn God and Country Award in Williamsburg

Explorers Lester Knauer and Gary Storer received the God and Country Award at a Williamsburg Methodist Church worship service on March 5. Knauer 17 is the son of Julius and the late family. Storer 17 is son of Jesse Storer, active in church and youth groups. Both are members of Explorer Post 32, led by Dan Kidd.

Levy Vote Next Fall is Decided

Amelia West Clermont Board of Education will hold the operating levy vote in the fall election to allow borrowing for operations and require only a simple majority in November. A $20.90 per $1000 levy is planned, with a possible $10.90 addition for a total of $31.80. a March 27 public meeting is set at Merwin Elementary. The district also plans a $1,065,000 bond issue to fund two new elementary schools and additions, with low bid 4.25 percent from Ohio Co. Columbus, totaling $2.3 million with state aid.

Minnick Reappointed to Clermont Health Board Leaders Elected

The Clermont County Health Advisory Council reappoints George Minnick of Marathon to the board. Mayor Richard C. Jamieson of Batavia is named chair, Lyle Sutton of Jackson Township vice chair, and Bud Hines of Goshen Township secretary succeeding Harley Clark and replacing Bethel Mayor O H Sharp.

Oyenik Receives Three Year Probation On Gun Charges

Charles M. Oyenik Jr., 29, of Thorpe, West Virginia, is placed on three years probation on two counts of shooting with intent to kill and assault to commit robbery after he turned himself in. The case stems from a March 17 attempted robbery at Bauer Market in Summerside where clerk Frank Quisenberry fired, wounding him in the shoulder.
