Open House for Clermont County Court House Addition

The Clermont County court house on Main and Market Streets expands with a $170000 two story addition opening for inspection on Wednesday March 22. No tax increase will fund the loans totaling 170000, with 100000 borrowed on bonds and 65000 from First National Bank of Batavia.

Goshen Board cuts Clermont County football program

The Goshen school board in Clermont County reduces the county league to four teams by removing Goshen due to an estimated $2000 cost. Amelia Bethel Felicity and Williamsburg remain in the league, with football to resume only if the community funds the needed money and new uniforms. The board regrets the move but cites financial strain. Also notes VFW posts will host Sunday social and Wednesday movie events.

Man Nabbed After Burglary Try At Reed's Station

Bethel police arrest 26 year old Adrian Bowling after he breaks a window at Reed's Sohio Station. Detectives recover nearly $200 from behind the furnace and money taken from the cash register and machines. Bowling confesses to another $240 theft from the same station last August. Police question suspect.

Ohio Civil War booklet for teachers free to distribute

A 40 page illustrated booklet titled Ohio in the Civil War is now available to teachers at no charge through The Standard Oil Company. It highlights Ohio’s civic, financial, and military contributions, including connections to Harriet Beecher Stowe, John Brown, and Daniel Emmett. It notes 234 infantry regiments 29 cavalry companies 27 artillery batteries and 24 major generals from Ohio. Clermont County’s Ulysses S. Students To Run County For Day

Youth will run county government for a day on April 19 as agreed by the county commissioners and a educators committee. High schoolers will write an essay on Issues Affecting County Government and two representatives from each school will be chosen to report back after their experience.

Welfare Director Wayne Oney told county commissioners last week that 700 families remain on relief, up from 550 in November. Aid will be slashed to 50 percent of the state standard, with further cuts likely. Expected income of $222,000 may not cover year end needs. commodity distributions will resume in the next weeks if April 1 arrivals occur.

Chandler Funeral Held Monday

MILFORD Services were held Monday for Allen David Chandler of 510 Price Road who died Sunday of a heart attack at home. Burial was in St. Philomeia Cemetery. Chandler was a Milford area plumbing contractor and a member of St. Andrew Church. He leaves his widow Alice Craver Chandler and three children, Allen Jr., Barbara Hammon, and JoAnn Barnes, plus four brothers and two sisters.

Motz Discusses Corn Bill With Congressmen at Washington
