Moscow woman returns from Near East on IFE program

Alice LeMar of Moscow spent five months in the International Farm Youth Exchange program in the Philippines. She lived with several families, made friendships, and helped foster understanding between the countries. A welcome home party on March 13 hosted by the 4H Junior Leadership Club at Edenton Methodist Church honored her.

Extension of PUB System Approved in Clermont County

Clermont County Commissioners approved a 250000 extension to the Pierce Union Batavia Sub District Water System. Alfred LeFeber and Associates to revise plans and estimates through April 1 1963. Extensions listed include Sycamore Ltd and several streets. A new well and storage tank are planned. Also approval to address drainage at Lindale Laurel and Lindale Nicholsville intersections. Three Ambeth Acres streets accepted for one year. Some streets rejected for pavement, berms, and turnabouts.

Civic Unit First To Attend Special County Meeting

The North Union Civic Association will not meet tonight at Union Township Hall. It will attend a special meeting in the newly dedicated Batavia courthouse addition at 8 p.m. The county commissioners organized the series to reduce multiple meetings around the county. The meetings are open to the public, urging attendance to hear and participate in discussions.

Science Fair Crowns Four Grand Champions in Clermont County

The Clermont County Science Fair directed by Hugh Dunn drew 375 exhibits from grades seven through twelve, the largest and best attended ever. Twenty Cincinnati industry scientists judged projects. four grand champions were named: junior high biology rabbits, Sandra Konisarek and Gail Kouba Amelia school. junior high physical science steam engine, Bill Custer Bethel school. senior high biology bread mold, Jerry Doss Amelia school. senior high physics hydroelectric plant, Hugh Riddle Amelia school. The county science committee thanked Keen Coal and Owensville Feed and Building Supply for table tops, Randall Liming and Ralph Haddix and their Northeast ern high students for table trestles, and Clermont Northeastern board of education for the display building.

Planners Reject Subdivision Plat Over Cavitette Plan

The Planning Commission voted seven to one to reject Mt. Forest No. 5 subdivision’s plat after the developer proposed using a cavitette system instead of a community sewage plant. Tests had shown the area unsuitable for individual septic tanks and effluent would flow into Hall's Run via storm sewers, causing the rejection. The cavitette makers claim the effluent is as clear as from a community plant.

Judge Studies Ison Plea After New Evidence Submitted

Judge Louis J. Schneider of Hamilton County Common Pleas Court studies a motion for a new trial by Don Ison, former county commissioner convicted of taking bribes. The defense argues no improper act, while the prosecutor contends campaign contributions were mischaracterized as bribes. New evidence includes a Washington hotel confirmation and affidavits about a late courtroom appearance by builder Carl Finn.

Drowning accident Ends Life of William H. Downhour

William H. Downhour of Pleasant Plain, 56, died Friday in an accidental drowning. Coroner Dr A A Gruber ruled it an accident after he was found face down in a foot of water with his car suspected to have backed into a culvert on Rt 28 near the Warren County line. Services were held at Hannah funeral home in Blanchester with survivors including his wife Julia three children and four sisters.

County Officers and Progress Told in New Booklet

A. E. Suro of the county planning commission compiled the annual county government report into a booklet. 2,990 copies were printed and given to the county commissioners. The dedication and open house at the courthouse featured copies and showcased photos of officials, growth maps, department locations, and department accomplishments.

Moscow Transfer Sparks District Debate in Clermont County

Clermont County Board of Education outlined reasons for transferring Moscow school district to Felicity-Franklin or New Richmond. Moscow board favored New Richmond. students have attended Felicity high school for two years and wish to continue. Petition signatures and remonstrance rules set a potential July 1 effective date if no election is demanded.

Loss High In Fire At The Frontier

NEW RICHMOND An estimated loss of 75 000 to 100 000 was sustained in a blaze Tuesday gutting The Frontier restaurant on U S 52 east of here. Firemen from here Moscow and Monroe township battled the blaze but could not control it. The restaurant and bar drew large crowds during Henry Bud Spicer 15 year proprietorship overlooking the Ohio River. Authorities seek the fire cause as a truck driver reported the alarm just after 5 am.

Cancer Fighters' Crusade Meeting Sets Clermont Drive Goals

Clermont County workers heard John Ely of the Ohio Division Crusade chair the Cancer Fighters' Crusade in Middletown. The group aims to raise 2 million dollars for the 1961 drive starting in April to fund research and promotion of cancer programs. Clermont attendees included Mrs. Lucille Butler, co chair Mildred Schoultheis, and Margaret Summers.

Special Services Planned At Mt. Holly Church

Mt. Holly United Church of Christ announces special services before Easter. Palm Sunday observes March 26 with Rev. Manuel B. Wenger delivering Crown Him With Something. A candlelight communion dramatizing the Vigil of Maundy Thursday is set for March 30 at 8 p.m. All public services are open, and the church sits one mile east of Amelia on Rt. 125.
