Clermont County High School Honor Roll and Upcoming Events

The High School lists honor roll students with at least ninety percent average. Sixth month class averages are Freshmen 86.69, Juniors 85.78, Seniors 85.66, Sophomores 85.31. An oratorical contest is set for March 28 in the High School Auditorium to select District representatives. Commencement is May 24 with Dr. Steele as speaker. The class play is May 19, Batavia Opera House hosts an entertainment on March 24, and Professor A Porter now teaches mathematics and manual training. A 16-team basketball tournament is planned for next Saturday at the Armory. Mary Smith, an eighth grade pupil, has flawless spelling.

Moonshining inmate breaks jail and disappears near Red Bridge

Adam Yanger of New Richmond, serving time for moonshining, escaped last Tuesday while on ash disposal duty and was recaptured near the Red Bridge Saturday afternoon. Known as a trusted inmate, he preferred work and will likely serve his full term.

Amelia Athletics to Compete in Spinney League Season

The Amelia Athletics led by manager Harry Nordyke will play in class AA of the Spinney League this season. A new grandstand is to be built with work starting immediately. Nordyke has scheduled a game against Mercury A. C. of Belleview Ky at new South Side Park in Amelia on April 16, weather permitting.

Louis Krekeler left his long-time post at the Batavia Kroger and arrived in Winchester Thursday to open a new store for the company. Friends wish him success in the new location.

Clermont Courier declares 1 percent dividend for 1921 earnings

The Clermont Courier Publishing Company directors declared a 1 percent dividend on 1921 earnings payable March 8, 1922. The Batavia I O C F lodge will confer the Initiatory degree on one candidate next Friday night and all fall members are requested to attend.

Meeting a Freeze Out in Mont county Democrats

A Batavia meeting of the Democrats of Clermont county drew about a dozen attendees to the town hall for organization and fall campaign plans. Reports say little was accomplished and adjournment was ordered to reconvene in early spring. The article notes a dimmed, waning enthusiasm and the absence of longtime party activists.

Legion Play by Batavian Boys Brightens New Richmond Event

The Batavian troupe performed at New Richmond town hall last Friday for the Legion fund. Seven autos brought the actors through a storm, the show drew strong patronage, and receipts were satisfactory. The group plans a Georgetown engagement for Legion support.

Supply exhausted for government seed distribution

The government seed stock sent for distribution is exhausted and requests for more are rising. Send a card to Hon. C. Kearns in Washington, D. C., and a package will be forwarded. Mr. A. B. Porter of Portage County was hired by the Batavia board of education to fill the vacancy left by Geo. Lupp, teaching mathematics and manual training.

Batavia Boys Pummel Bethel 71 to 10 In Evening Match

Bethel basketball boys visiting Batavia were overwhelmed by Batavia’s squad 71 to 10 as home players, mostly substitutes, impressed a good crowd. The event also featured a girls game canceled by the storm with Batavia girls winning 10 to 8 against local talent.

Terrace Park votes on liquor case trials and police judge

Voters in Terrace Park last week decided liquor case hearings could be held in the village and named Samuel Cornish 18 as police judge. A two mill road levy will benefit taxing districts with funds for road work. The note mentions B F Thamann sale on Saturday March 5 at Glen Bet.
