Batavia Clermont County eyes comments on Middle East Fork sewer plan

Commissioners will hear public comments April 4 at 10 a.m. on changes to the Middle East Fork sewer project. Bids for phase one were rejected as prices nearly doubled estimates. Balke Engineers raised the project total from 5.84 to about 9 million and the EPA grant from 4.38 to 6.96 million, while the county share climbed from 1.46 to 3.44 million. If no contract within a year, the county risks losing the 75 percent grant for the collection system and plant, dropping to a 55 percent grant for the plant. The plan shift to a lagoon at Amelia Batavia plant lowers construction costs but raises future maintenance.
