Franklin Township Helps Starving Children Appeal Response

Twenty five years ago an urgent appeal for Eastern European children raised 422.30 sent to county treasurer P. F. Jamieson. Franklin township was allotted 150 for 15 children. The committee praised the citizens for a splendid record amid hard times.

17 Fatal Accidents in Clermont County in Past Year

The Health Department annual report for 1945 records 17 fatal accidents in Clermont County. Drowning caused five deaths, auto and train wrecks four, farm machinery three, with one each from poison, accidental shooting, suffocation, burning, and a fatal fall. The Advisory Council met at Batavia to elect officers Louis M. Kleine president, Richard Holden vice president, Harry Clark secretary, and E. H. Marsh of Newtonsville named to the county Board of Health.

Three Injured in Route 132 Auto Wreck Near Felicity

A 1935 Ford crashed into a tree on Route 132 near Felicity around 3 p.m. Tuesday injuring Gus Walters of Neville and two Neville residents Dewey Singer and Anna Knight. They were taken to Good Samaritan in Broadwell Ambulance. Officials say alcohol was involved.

Clermont District to Receive 21 160 Trees for Planting

The Clermont County Soil Conservation District will receive 21 160 trees and 3 000 multiflora rose to plant on farms under district agreement. Stock includes 6 600 tulip poplar 10 000 black locust 4 000 short leaf pine 560 white pine and 3 000 multiflora rose. Owing to demand the district prorated stock and will plant new areas and introduce tulip poplar where exterminated. Spare sugar stamp 9 valid five pounds for canning from March 11 to Oct 31. Next sugar stamp May 1 five pounds per four months. home canners to apply March 11 at the District OPA Office with records of used foods.

Rev Lester Hill New Pastor At Point Isabel Circuit

The Rev. Lester D. Hill recently named pastor of the Christian Congregational Church of Point Isabel has arrived and is settled in the parsonage. He led the first Sunday service and will also serve Mt. Holly and Hamereville churches on the circuit with services to be scheduled after planning meetings.

Clermont Rangers Elect Officers in Mt Carmel Unit

The Mt. Carmel Unit of the Clermont County Rangers held the officer election on March 9 at Glen Este School. New officers include President James Winnes and Vice President James Winnes, with Clarence Perin as Secretary and Fred Richoltz as Treasurer, Odus Lykins as Captain. The group plans speakers, entertainment, and a Bell's Lake picnic in July.

Amelia Institute Considered Success

The Amelia Institute held March 7 and 8 was considered one of the best ever staged in Amelia by the committee in charge. They thanked all who contributed to the success including speakers school children Boy Scouts Girl Scouts Cubs and 4-H Girls.

Homer Henry Mosebacher son of Mr and Mrs Edgar Mosebacher has been promoted from Ensign to Lieutenant (jg) He is stationed at Alameda California as officer in charge of the Air Station there He and his wife Dorothy Roudebush of Clermont County live in Oakland They were married August 2 1945 Lt Mosebacher has served more than three years and was home last May.

Bond Issue Proposed In Three Clermont Districts

Clermont County voters will decide on three bond issues in the May primary to fund school improvements in New Richmond Amelia and Felicity totaling about 200000. Resolutions were approved at a Batavia meeting of the school boards with specific costs: Amelia 85000 New Richmond 47000 Felicity 60000. A 65 percent approval in each district is required, Forest Ely named special attorney to assist. The proposals will be filed with the Board of Elections to prepare ballots.

Anstaett Orchards hosts hogs and apple grove near Batavia

A touring visitor meets Aaron Anstaett at Anstaett Orchards on Route 74 Batavia Township. He farms fourteen hundred apple trees across twenty six acres and raises hogs as a sideline tied to orchard work. He explains pruning rules and the spray schedule used to protect the trees through stages from Green Tip to Petal Fall, including oil and sulfur sprays and a lead-lime mixture.
