Defense Council Held Meeting Here Sunday

The Batavia division of Civilian and Home Defense met at the county courthouse under J. M. Wiseman. About 19 members discussed local war duties and urged faster Batavia participation, with Judge Orville Halbisch named salvage committee head and 200 volunteers sought for duties. Registration days are March 12–14. Miss Frances Reese to handle applications. Roy Battles urged kitchen gardens amid likely canned goods shortages. Scouts reported progress in first aid training and waste collection.

Special Warning Issued To Drivers To Get New License

Two killed in a motorcycle crash near Bethel on Route 133 when the bike left the highway and struck a ditch and pole. George Ralph Medary 33 and Robert Dale Riddle 15 died from the crash with Medary dying en route to a doctor and Riddle at Bethesda hospital. Sheriff Tom Brook reports that Harvey Henderson, sentenced for non support, escaped from the Lebanon prison farm last week. Henderson had faced another charge earlier and would have become eligible for release soon.

Red Cross First Aid Classes At Mt Carmel Glen Este

Farm Home Burns On Hitchcock Farm West Of Amelia

Fire destroyed the Hitchcock farm home about one mile west of Amelia Sunday evening. The Lee Jones family occupied the residence and the 11 o'clock blaze consumed the contents of the house.

Milford and Batavia Eliminated by Glendale and Hanover

Milford and Batavia, Clermont champions, were ousted from the district tournament at St. Xavier by Glendale and Hanover. Milford fell 32 to 27 after Bill Easley was ejected in the third period, while Batavia lost 40 to 32 to Hanover as Clermont’s defense shone but scoring lagged. National Accordion Club to Perform at Amelia High

On Friday night March 13 the National Accordion Club of Cincinnati directed by Major W A Shields will present a concert at Amelia high school auditorium at 8 p m. The program includes solos quartets sextets and a duet by a five year old and a seventeen year old six foot one inch partner.
