The County Superintendent E. H. Pattison reports Clermont County received a share of 50,000 from the state legislative emergency aid for clothing shoes and books to keep children in school. Each district received based on Education Department decisions. total approved in the county is 1135.17 dollars.

State awards bridge contract on Route 50 near Batavia

The state awarded a contract for a new steel bridge at Stonelink to replace the aged structure three miles below Batavia on Route 50. The awarded firm will begin work immediately and plans to sub-let portions to speed completion. The project is described as a sound investment for the region.

Car Crash Kills Wife and Son in Ohio Drive

H Hiles and family were traveling from Cincinnati to Neville when their car went over an embankment near New Richmond at midnight. Mrs Birdie Hiles died instantly and other family members were treated by New Richmond physicians. Harold Jr died Sunday at Bethesda Hospital in White's ambulance. Another car blinded the driver.

Drougth Relief Loan Terms Amended

P F Jamieson announces that the Secretary of Agriculture has amended drought relief loan rules to authorize loans up to 75 dollars for feed for livestock producing food on farms such as dairy cattle hogs and poultry. Previous limits on loans for fertilizer seed and feed for work horses remain unchanged.

The Rural Mail Carriers Association of Clermont county held its quarterly meeting at the Court House in Batavia with full membership. President Ray Shinkle presided, secretary Geo. B. Frazier spoke, and after adjournment forty covers were served at Kramer Lunch Rooms with Harry Mefford as toastmaster.

Four Huntington Family Celebrates Birthday Milestone

Four generations of the Huntington family from Amelia gathered Saturday to honor the seventy ninth birthday of George Huntington, the town’s long time resident. Attendees included George W. Huntington, 79, his son George B. Huntington, 51, also a land agent for the State Highway Department, and grandson George A. Huntington, 28, a painter. Great grandson George C. Huntington is six, with two other great grandsons James, eight, and John, four, joining in. Also present were George W. Huntington’s wife, 77, and another son John, 54, cashier of the Hirst National Bank in Batavia. The elder’s kinship and lifelong Amelia ties marked a rare family milestone.

Water Petition Circulated in Williamsburg for Municipal Plant

Citizens of Williamsburg circulate petitions to gauge how many will become water users if a municipal plant is built. Belief grows the $30,000 installation will occur in 1931. Howard Home Destroyed by Fire on Grant Highway

The Dr. Howard home near the Old Bantam Fair Ground burned Monday night. The loss is about 8000 dollars with partial insurance. Grover Boles of Forestville, who recently bought the place, with workers were repairing it. Paint in an upstairs room was destroyed. Boles, who deals in high priced Angora cats, saved the stock from the blaze.

Snow Drifts Hit Clermont County Rural Routes

Rural mail carriers faced deep snow drifts from three to five feet on Monday. C.8 Slade J.B. Wasner and Harry Mefford shoveled through while others fared better. Wu.8 Moore, an undertaker, was pulled from a drift while transporting the body of Sheridan Jones from Glen Este to Mt. Moriah.

New Division of Road Funds Urged in Ohio Plan

Columbus March 26 A proposal to add 1 568000 to townships and to increase shares for counties and municipalities in a gasoline tax redistribution is urged by the Hobie s Highways Committee. The Secrist Bostwick bill would raise municipal share about 15 percent while reducing the State’s take by roughly 4400000 annually. An earlier plan to have townships gain about half their present sum with state roads over 1000 miles yearly transferred to counties was rejected.

Norfolk and Western Veterans Meet at Coney Island May 23

The Norfolk and Western Veterans Association plans its second annual meeting at Coney Island near Cincinnati on May 23. About 1200 members from across the railroad are expected, 450 more than last year. Activities include reports, committee appointments, officer elections, a luncheon, a 10 mile Ohio River boat ride, and diamond insignia presentations. The luncheon ends so attendees can watch a Reds vs Cardinals game in the afternoon.

Amelia Wins District Basketball Clash Over Batavia

Amelia basketball team defeated Batavia 26 to 16 at the District Tournament at Cincinnati University after losing 81 to 19 in the County Championship at Batavia last week. The win sends Amelia to Dayton for the next round, and the season closes here.

Bank Robbery at Russellville State Bank

Two robers entered the Russellville State Bank Friday morning at 10 seized cash with a revolver, took 700 dollars, no injuries. They fled toward Winchester on route 88 then 74 toward Portsmouth or Cincinnati or 38 to Hillsboro. Sheriff Roberts and deputies searched the route but found no trace. locals suspect local talent from Clermont county.

The Cincinnati Commandery Band No 8 Knight Templars performed eight numbers at Batavia town hall last Friday benefiting the unemployed through leader P F Jamieson. A free will offering was taken though poor weather kept attendance light. After the show the 36 musicians were banqueted at Kramer lunch room.

Jos Witte and Jos Winemiller of Peerless Creamery Co of Batavia sue W H G and William E Rabe in Clermont County Court of Common Pleas for 5000 damages and an injunction. Ohio counties not in corn borer quarantine ring

Not in Quarantine Ohio counties include Scioto Lawrence Brown Clermont Hamilton and Butler and southern Adams. Corn from these counties may be shipped into Kentucky with evidence of origin in the unquarantined area. Inspectors along the Ohio River will prevent movement from the quarantined area.

Bond Issue Enjoined by Clermont County Court

The Clermont County Common Pleas Court in Monroe township heard a case to enjoin the school board from issuing bonds totaling 38,900 for a centralized school. Judge Stephenson presided in place of Judge White. The court took the case under advisement after hearing evidence and arguments. The issue was carried by a large majority amid irregularities in petition preparation and a dispute over site location between Laurel and Nicholsville.

The State and Clermont County fairs are set, with Clermont dates August 18 to 21 and State Fair dates August 31 to September 5, 1938. Officials promise a bigger, better exhibit and six full days of pleasure and profit, with daily attractions geared to all ages and occupations.
