Judge's fireworks order sparks Riley legal battle
James O Riley and Wanda Riley of State Fireworks Co opation prepared to appeal Judge Andy Douglas's ruling that barred retail sales in Ohio. Riley says the case will go to the Ohio Supreme Court if needed and that sales to jobbers in Indiana and Kentucky continue as they ready for another Fourth of July season.

Batavia girl, 16, dies in car crash near Glen Este High
Bernadette Arthon, 16, of 4457 Glendale Road Batavia, was killed when her car collided with a pickup driven by Richard Shinkle 35 failing to stop for a red light at the Glen Este Withamaville Road intersection with SR 32. A passenger Carla Diesel 18 was treated and Shinkle was hospitalized. Investigation ongoing.

Evans wins state diving title on one meter board
Pat Evans a Glen Este High School junior captured the Ohio high school state diving championship on the one meter board at Canton McKinley High School Natatorium. He notched 455.7 points after a tense final to overcome Kurt Bubins and Jim Fisher. Evans began his rise by winning the sectional at Anderson High School and led late in the state meet before sealing the title. His coach is Charlie Casuto of Cincinnati.
