Mosler Lock Plant Dedication Highlights Expansion

Milford marks the opening of the Mosler Lock Company plant, the eighth major expansion in two years for the 112 year old firm. John Mosler notes improved production and service as the firm expands diversifying into research, acquisitions, and new facilities in Danbury, Grandview, Washington, and beyond.

Bidding Active On Bonds For Court House Expansion

Seven firms submit bids for a 100000 bond issue to fund a court house expansion. Field Richards & Co. of Cincinnati offers 4 percent interest with 615 premium, others include Stranahan Harris & Co. and Brann Bosworth Co. of Toledo and Prov ident Bank, Pohl Co., Westheimer Co. also at 4 percent. Proceeds supplement a 130000 project. bonds to be retired by inside millage with no new taxes. Construction bids will open April 15 at 2 p m. plans available from Barbeau Construction Management Batavia consulting engineer.

Six Teams Clash Sunday At Burg Clermont Tournament

Six teams compete Sunday in the Clermont Independent Basketball Tournament. Felicity and New Richmond meet at 1 p m, Williamsburg Faculty and Amelia at 2 p m, and undefeated Williamsburg at 3 p m with Mt. Carmel. Williamsburg Police have a bye. Batavia Church Choir to Appear on TV March 13

The First Methodist Church of Batavia choir under Rev. Don G. McMannis will sing on the Praise Hour TV program at 8 30 a m Sunday March 13 on WKRC Channel 12. It marks their second recent appearance. Choir director is Mrs Helen Lahmann and organist is Mrs Ralph Lewis. Program is sponsored by the Council of Churches of Greater Cincinnati.

Art Exhibit Date Set By Batavia Women’s Club

The Batavia Women's Club will sponsor a free art exhibit on Thursday March 17 from 7 30 to 9 30 p m at the First Methodist Church Batavia. Local residents and nearby artists may exhibit paintings drawings sculptures ceramics and weaving. Exhibitors must register entries March 17 between 1 30 and 5 30 p m and may pick up works at closing time. Public viewing invited.

Ford Award Goes To Bethel Mayor

Bethel mayor Charles Hook will receive Ford Motor Company's 1959 community service award in a March 24 ceremony at the Terrace Hilton Hotel. Hook, a security division employee at Ford’s Fairfax plant, competed with 50 plus nominees from Cincinnati area plants in a program limited to elected local officials. E. J. Hollenbuck praised Hook’s community service as meriting the award. Hook has prior service as Clermont County sheriff’s night dispatcher and Bethel police officer.

Circle Route Progress Hinges On Kentucky Bridge Decision

Clermont County officials said they cannot block the Circle Freeway path until Kentucky picks a bridge crossing location over the Ohio River and the federal and state governments establish the freeway line. Ohio wants a crossing near Rt. 52 east of Nine Mile Road or at Coney Island, while Kentucky favors the end west of Cincinnati. the first segment gains 90 percent federal funding, the other 50 percent.

Rt 74 Relocation Plans Move Forward

Joseph Unger of the State Highway Department announced the Rt 74 relocation from Willowville to Mt. Carmel will be stepped up in the next fiscal year. Local opposition from Mt. Carmel business people persists as consultants are hired to survey and plan the four lane circle freeway interchange with the Batavia to Willowville section.

Clermont County Expands Recreation Board to Thirteen

Clermont County commissioners increased the recreation board from nine to thirteen members with three alternates. Ralph Kunz of Wilhiamsville joins as a regular member along with alternates Calvin Lewis Batavia Carlos Burns Bethel and Floyd Duchemin Williams burg elevated to regular status for broader participation and attendance at meetings.

History Society To Meet March 10

Clermont County Historical Society will meet March 10 at 7 30 p m in the Courier building Batavia. A historical film Freedom's Proving Ground will be shown followed by the business meeting. Historical articles will be displayed by Charles Duncan of Withamsville.

Firm Plans Expansion of Batavia Phone Exchange

The Cincinnati and Suburban Bell Telephone Co. seeks a building permit to expand the Batavia exchange at Market and North Streets. Estimated cost is $135,000 excluding new central office equipment. Construction adds 8000 square feet in a one floor brick addition with basement, completing in fall 1961.

PTA Leader Hospitalized After Emergency Surgery

Mrs. Helen Lahmann, president of the Owensville PTA and director of the Owensville Mothersingers, and the Batavia Methodist Church choir, is a patient at St. Mary's Hospital in Cincinnati after undergoing emergency surgery early Tuesday.

Medical Office Reopens Monday After Surgery Recovery

First Woman Appointed to Clermont County Health Board

Mrs. Diana Womack of Glen Este becomes the first woman named to the Clermont County Health Board. Named by the Health Advisory Council after a nine to six vote, she replaces Harry Danner whose term expired. The council also moved to punish health board absenteeism with automatic dismissal after three unexcused absences.

Four Census Crew Leaders Appointed For Clermont County

Four crew leaders are named in Clermont County for the 1960 population and housing census. Don E. Fuller of the Chillicothe area office announces Virgil Minnick Davis J. Myers Philip Taylor and Mrs Eileen Greer will supervise about 20 enumerators. Training begins March 9 with topics on recruiting training canvassing reports and supervision to ensure an accurate count.

County Knot Hole Leagues Meet To Plan 1960 Season

The Clermont County Knot Hole Leagues will meet next Tuesday night March 15 at Batavia courthouse at 8 p.m. Stanley Anstaett announced final plans for the 1960 season. All towns must have representation to enter teams this year. Forfeit and prize money may be posted. Many new teams are expected.
