Clermont County 4-H Week celebrates youth involvement with 518 local members in 37 clubs. National 4-H Week runs March 5 to 13, as 4-H expands to international programs. County projects include vegetable gardening dairy poultry swine and crafts for boys and clothing and food prep for girls.

Amelia Basketball Advances to District Class B Quarters

The Amelia team remains alive in the District Class B tournament at Xavier Stadium Cincinnati after beating Higginsport 51 34 and New Richmond 35 32. They advance to tonight's quarterfinal against Wyoming becoming the sole non Hamilton County club remaining in the field of eight. Larry C Goetz of New Richmond signs a contract to umpire in the Southeastern League which spans Florida Mississippi and Alabama with headquarters in Montgomery Alabama.

Elusive suspect eludes sheriff team in Batavia chase

Sheriff Clyde Dericks deputies Marvin Bissantz and Frank Hutchinson along with assistants including Charles Whitmer and Kyle Moyer hunted a suspicious man near Batavia. A pickup crash, sightings near the N and W station, and a farm flash followed by a large wooded search failed to locate him.

Upper Clough Civic Club Honors Judge Britton Honorary Member

At a regular meeting the Upper Clough Civic Club unanimously named Judge Harry Britton of Clermont County Common Pleas Court an honorary member. New members Fred Zeller and Donald Berger joined. The club plans its second annual outing July 16 17 with a television set as prize.

Forney Named to County Health Board in Clermont County

Dale Forney of Williamsburg was elected to fill the term of Dr. Howard Fabin who resigned from the Clermont County Board of Health. Harry Clark of Monroe Township was elected to replace John B. Ginn whose term expired. A resolution opposing the organization of Brown Adams Clermont and Highland Counties into a health district was passed.

Batavia Junior Civic Club to Hear Miss Reese

The Batavia Junior Civic Club will meet at Miss Ruth Bissantz’s home on Tuesday March 15. Guest speaker will be Miss Francis Reese with co hosts Clara Barbara Remley and Virginia Anstaett. Members have been soliciting Batavia residents for Red Cross contributions.

Frank Hoggatt Clermont County schools superintendent will discuss a county library system and Guy Smith county sanitarian will speak for Owensville. Fire destroys Williamsburg feed mill with heavy losses

A blaze swept a two story frame building at Main Street and East Fork bridge in Williamsburg causing about 520,000 property damage. Fire departments from Williamsburg Batavia and Tate Township fought the flames while Emory Clark estimated 14000 in feed 10000 in machinery and 20000 in other property loss.

Hoggatt Discusses Library Finance At Clermont Banquet

At the thirteenth annual Board of Education banquet in Clermont County Frank B. Hoggatt the county school superintendent spoke on how new legislation may affect Clermont County. He quoted the 1948 Directory of Ohio Libraries to dispute library financing figures and noted intangible taxes paid in 1947. The Batavia PTA and the school orchestra provided musical interludes.

Services Held for Richard Deimling in Williamsville

Services were held yesterday at St. Thomas More Church Williamsville for Richard S Deimling 45 of Clough Pike. The coroner found death by hanging after the body was discovered. Dr Paul Bauhrichter of Williamsville attempted artificial respiration but could not revive him.

Man Burned After Fire Near Batavia Freight Yard

Morning report says a man treated for burns by Dr. V. J. Sperling of Amelia after leaping from an N and W freight train at Batavia. He said he heard a fire near Keen Coal and Supply Co to keep warm, then slept. His clothing ignited and his back was severely burned.

Lost Youth May Be In Kentucky

Information reports Everett Lee Cooper a 15 year old from Williamsburg who left home on February 7 may be in Floyd County Kentucky. Sheriff Clyde Dericks was told Cooper has friends in Bainbridge Ohio and may have traveled to Kentucky.

Red Cross Campaign Opens in Clermont County for 1949 Funds

Clermont County Red Cross starts its 1949 fund drive with over half of township chairs active in solicitations. James McNeal, Batavia High School instructor, is County Fund Chairman and veteran, now a member of the American Legion and Ohio National Guard. George Ankermiller, local chapter chair, notes Red Cross disaster service costs average 11 000 dollars yearly in Clermont County over eleven years, with locally retained funds tripling impact. The drive supports numerous services from veteran aid to blood banking and nursing, and emphasizes ongoing disaster readiness and fundraising needs.
