Hitch family blends business and future plans in Owensville

Jones named head of Clermont County Experiment Farm

William L. Jones is appointed manager of the Clermont County Experimental Farm by L. L. Rummell of the Ohio Agricultural Experiment Station. He began March 1, is a Ohio State Agriculture College graduate with 14 years farming experience and a World War II veteran. He succeeds Albert Lyon, who resigned to manage the former Robert Caldwell farm on Route 50 near Owensville now run by Dr. G. P. Weaver.

Clermont County Stone Homes Highlight Native Building

A Batavia area residence of William and Mrs Gabriel showcases Clermont County native stone. The 80 foot ranch on State Route 222 sits on an acre with many shade trees. Mr Gabriel did much of the work himself, building a stone fireplace and finishing a basement area. The home is in the $20,000 class, reflecting the cost impact of stone construction.

W. W. Hamilton and members of the Clermont County Farm and Home Safety Committee attended the Southwestern Ohio District Safety conference at the Springfield courthouse on February 25. The meeting gathered safety representatives to share notes and plan steps to enhance farm safety efforts.

Gerald Iles Awarded Contract for Stone on Clover Road

Clermont County Commissioners awarded the crushed stone contract for the Anti-Bantam Clover Road in Williamsburg after a coin toss. Gerald Tes of Batavia and Dave Dorsey tied with a bid of $1,314.45. the winner was decided by luck. W. & I. Trucking Company bid $1,466.85.

Amelia High School edged New Richmond High 35 33 to capture the Clermont County basketball title at Williamsburg. Johnson led Amelia with 11 points while Henderson paced New Richmond with 9. Bramm was out with a sprained wrist. An all star county team was named by the coaches.

Scout Club Formed At Bethel Church

The Bethel Church of Christ sponsors a new Scout Club with 12 charter members. Charles Hook will guide as scout master, with Jesse M. Veatch as sponsoring committee chairman and members Thomas C. Bethel Man Bound Over To Grand Jury For Shooting

Ralph Helms 32 East Osborn Bethel is bound over to Clermont County grand jury on 2000 bond after arraignment on a shooting with intent to kill charge filed by his wife. Sheriff deputies and Bethel police responded to gunfire at the Helms home with broken glass shells and a grazed cheek reported by Mrs Helms.

Former Batavian Named Aide To Inland Waterways Chief

Word from Batavia says James 8 Brown, formerly of Batavia, has been appointed assistant to the President of Inland Waterways Corporation. He will oversee survey correlation, statistical research and planning for the Mississippi River operator. Brown, son of the late Frank Brown and long based in St Louis at 4162A DeTonty Avenue with his sister Wilma, has been with the firm about fifteen years.

Hardware store looted in Fayetteville burglary

Thieves forced a back door at the Fayetteville Hardware Store on Tuesday and stole two radios and four shotguns. A loaded revolver taken from the proprietor Mr Bau dendistel’s desk was also missing. Two men were arrested on fusion and held for questioning.

Conservation Officers Installed Lead Clermont District Board

At the Clermont Soil Conservation District meeting held February 25 in Batavia Elmer Norris was reappointed chairman with Thomas B Hill as vice chairman and Robert B Dean as secretary treasurer. The board approved a working agreement with the Agricultural Extension Service to boost conservation efforts and welcomed attendees including Hamilton County extension staff and local district officials.
