New Richmond Man Held in Hamilton County on 2nd Degree Murder Charge

George L. Pownall, 42, of one mile north of New Richmond, is jailed without bond on a second degree murder charge after the fatal shooting of Bertha King, 48, at his home Sunday night. King died at Bethesda Hospital around 12:30 A M. Pownall signed a confession and will be observed for mental health before the Grand Jury.

Mail Carrier Charles Jackson Dies at 68

Charles Jackson 68 a retired Batavia post office mail carrier died at home Friday after a stroke of paralysis. Funeral Monday at 2 p m from Second M E church with burial in Union cemetery. Survived by widow a son Elery of Cincinnati post office and a daughter. Esteemed by all who knew him. Member of the Colored Masonic Lodge Eastern Stars and Shriners who held services Sunday night at 12.

Rampage Floods Hit East Fork Roads and Bottoms

After an all night rain, the East Fork area experienced a rampage of flooding Sunday morning. The creek bottoms were flooded and roads suffered damage from the high water.

Milford Village Council advances the new building code effective now. Robert Shaper is sworn in as building inspector to enforce fire safety and beautification goals. Water service extension to Tyler Subdivision is studied by the surveyor Val Rule, with no immediate water rate cuts expected. Raymond Elion is hired as water plant superintendent, site for a new post office awaits selection, and delinquent taxes are to be collected.

Felicity Plans Street Paving and Civic Initiatives

Felicity residents and the Felicity-Franklin Men's Business and Civic Club seek state and federal aid to pave Market Street from curb to curb along Route 133. State Rep John J Hayden, chair of the Highway Committee, is asked to press for the road, a park, and other village improvements. The club proposes a bond issue for fire equipment, urges licensing of transient peddlers, and discusses WPA cistern and well projects. Meetings move to the second and fourth Mondays at the Felicity-Franklin School auditorium with a March gathering and postmeeting dance.

Clermont County School masters' Club gathered last Thursday night with about 190 attendees after dinner served by Batavia PTA. President H. J. Badgley praised unity between teachers and boards as Miss Gladys Lewis led the Batavia Girls' Glee Club and Frank Hoggatt noted cooperation between boards and schools. M. J. Almack then delivered the keynote stressing progress and training youth to meet a changing social order.
