Health Commissioner Bishop urges parents to prevent measles by limiting exposure and seeking early physician care. He notes high U S deaths and stresses recognizing symptoms, nursing care, and avoiding contact with sick children.
Otto Gaskins and his son hauled logs to a mill last week when a large log toppled from a wagon. Gaskins fractured a collar bone and mashed an ankle after the wagon hit a rut. He was treated at home and advised to secure loads with chains in the future.
John Marshall, a 23 year old participant in a February 26 highway robbery of Augustus Rumpke near Newtown, confesses to a plot laid in Cincinnati. He and partner Will Hahn were identified by victims at trial and await grand jury action with bond set at 1500 dollars each. The penalty ranges from one to fifteen years.
At the Cedars country home Mrs. Harry Parnell hosted the Country Club gathering. The roll call featured Longfellow quotes and Mrs. Homer Hibbs delivered Anecdotes of Washington. Mrs. Keach read The Art of Conversation and a paper on Personal Hygiene by Mrs. John Foster.
J G Trewin's insurance operation in Williamsburg is taken over by EB B Holmes. Holmes invites old patrons to stay and welcomes new clients, offering renewal writing and rate quotes for any new business. He represents sound and reliable companies.
The Goshen Culture Club held its annual guest night at the Renner home north of town with a large turnout of members guests and friends. A short charming play Five Cups of Chocolate entertained then a three course luncheon in a dining room lit by red shaded candles. James F Hitch born near Bantam Ohio on April 18 1829 dies at 87 in Batavia. He married Harriett Robinson in 1856 with two children who died young and later wed Laura A Robinson with two more children and two stepchildren. A skilled wagon maker turned glouckster for five years, he served the Methodist Episcopal church as trustee steward class leader Sunday school superintendent and more. Survived by widow two children Harriett and James Frank, two stepchildren W O and Lillian Robinson, two grandchildren Franklin and Robert Wiseman and son-in-law J Monroe Wiseman. Funeral conducted by Rev John P Martin with support from Rev Frank Martin Rev Wm Baker and Rev EB Burdsall, burial in Union Cemetery Batavia.
On March 4 1916 Williamsburg Grange No 1999 held a 10 o'clock session. A class of candidates received the 3rd and 4th degrees followed by a bountiful dinner. The afternoon open meeting featured songs readings and a play titled Calling Miss Smith. The Grange, under a year old, has 206 members and anticipates a prosperous year.

Clermont County Agricultural Society vs W V Brooks docketed in Brown County courts for 176 dollars balance on selling soft drinks at last year’s Boston fair. Defendant claimed no fair held on August 15 and he was damaged 75 dollars. Differences settled before trial. Privilege money rules require half down at award and half on second fair day.
James S. Hulick, longtime Clermont educator and former Clermont Courier partner, died last Wednesday evening after about two years of decline. He served as township superintendent, school examiner, and was active in business with Gregg & Hulick. Funeral held at M E church with Rev Martin officiating. burial in Union cemetery. He leaves a widow, two daughters, a mother, four brothers, and three sisters.
Judge Davis reads a funeral sketch honoring James S Hulick born 1847 in Clermont County. The note praises his lifelong teaching career, family devotion, and civic work, with emphasis on his father Abraham Hulick and daughter Cecile Marjorie. It recalls Clive Hulick's death and the family’s devotion to learning and service.
A large Batavia crowd watched Batavia high girls defeat Williamsburg 18 to 6. Batavia Scouts beat Williamsburg boys 80 to 10 in a spirited doubleheader. The Boy Scout first team travels to Milford next Saturday aiming for a season closer championship between top teams.
J D Darling ends tenure as General Secretary of the Ohio Sunday School Association and becomes Secretary and Treasurer of the Howland Library Association. The office moves from Cincinnati to Columbus while Mr Howland remains General Manager and focuses on field work. Reverend Darling is well known among Clermont residents.
A library shower will be held at the Newtonsville school house on March 17 at 10 a.m. to benefit the new centralized school district library. Everyone is invited to attend and bring a book or donate the value of a good book. An appropriate program with good speaking will be given.
Town Hall hosts the Senior's Play Friday March 10 at eight. Admission 15 and 25 cents with music by the high school orchestra. One act Jack for Every Jill stars Dr Robinson and a cast including Richard Altman Chas Washington Laura Hauck Fred Fitz Mosbacker Jones Pate Orville Halbisch Harriet Radcliffe Ethel Mitchell Cora Stoltz Wilma Brown. The Ghost of an Idea in three acts features Dolly Van Flutter Nan Doolittle Ethel Mitchell Harriet Radcliffe Cora Stoltz Polly Laura Hauck and music by Laura Hauck.
It is estimated that 1800 were disfranchised in Adams County, with about 1700 likely to vote this fall while 100 die. Restored voters will participate in the election and may alter district results and the county outcome as many vote for the first time.
The Milford High School teachers and scholars organize a guitar and mandolin club with eight guitar performers and 18 mandolin players. They plan weekly practice and aim to participate in the May festival the school plans for this spring. Batavia schools boast a fine orchestra of high school pupils praised for music quality.
City officials signed a contract with C G P Co to obtain electric current to be delivered to Georgetown. Installation of new apparatus by town workers should take about 30 days, with extra railroad fixtures due within 10 days. Prospects for Batavia remain poor due to costs, with a decision expected soon.
Inmates from the Warren County infirmary displaced by a recent fire were placed in Clermont County facilities. Clermont agreed to care for 12 inmates at $3 per week, bringing total inmates at the county house to 62. The farm provides meat lard potatoes canned fruit milk butter eggs and chickens to feed them, with potential savings by using farm produce. The heat and light infrastructure will accommodate all, with a bit more work for staff.
Miss Alice Dial of Elmwood school had a narrow escape when a buggy driven by a horse hit a culvert, broke the king bolt, and dragged her several feet before she stopped the runaway. Despite torn clothing and minor bruises, she still hitched another horse and finished the trip home in half the time.
