A reader writes the Courier decries the Mt Carmel detour on State Highway 74 bypassing Batavia. Red Cross Display Of Garments For Britain In Batavia

Clermont County Chapter of the American Red Cross announces a week long display of volunteer sewn garments in the H B Glancy window Batavia Main Street starting March 5. The unit supports civilian relief in England with another quota due by May 31 and material from National Headquarters. Clubs and organizations are urged to contact the Batavia Red Cross office at 4111 to volunteer sewing or knitting.

Methodist Minister W B Bonham Dies at 59 in New Richmond

Reverend W. B. Bonham aged 59, retired Methodist minister, died Sunday after a heart attack following church services in New Richmond. Services set for Wednesday at 10 39 a m at T P White Son funeral home. He previously led Farmersburg Indiana church and started a local grocery, served New Richmond and Batavia Methodist churches. He is survived by his widow Ruby Brewer Bonham and son Charles C. Bonham of Chicago with Ford Motor Co.

Wigginsville Methodist Church Burns After Epworth League Meeting

Fire destroyed the Wigginsville Methodist Church last Sunday evening after an Epworth League meeting. Several attendees saw sparks flying from the chimney before departure. The blaze, started by roof sparks lighting the shingles, had already begun after the group left.

Ed ward Anstaett of Batavia recalls an accident 64 years ago when a needle was left in his knee. An X Ray showed the needle broke in three corroded pieces, one lodged in the knee bone, finally removed after decades. The case may set a record for longest carried needle.

Auto Stolen Near Williams Corner

Clermont County sheriff reports a 1934 Buick sedan owned by Hillard Colling of Williams Corner was stolen last Sunday around 9 p m. The theft was broadcast via the State Highway Patrol network. The thief is believed to be a 19 year old youth with an unknown Kentucky address. No arrest has been made.

Garageman Injured In Shop Mishap

Mr Hackney of the Hackney Chevrolet Garage Amelia sustained serious injuries when a tiger slipped from an automatic waist and a car fell on him. Several men lifted the vehicle to free him before he was transported to City Hospital by Dr Schue. He is reported in fair condition.

Higby Pleads Guilty To Sheep Theft

Donald Higby of Lynchburg Ohio pleaded guilty to stealing five sheep from H S Bigam near Monterey on February 20. He admitted hauling the animals to New Vienna and selling them to a dealer in a motor car. Higby is held in the County Jail on a $1000 bond and also confessed to a forged check against Bigam.

Five Injured In Crossing Crash In Lindale

Sunday morning at 9 30 a car driven by B G Cross crashed with Ray Sellars at the Fair Oak Lindale Pike and Kroger Highway intersection. Mrs Cross suffered a broken jaw and other injuries while two children were lightly hurt and a baby had a fractured skull. The other vehicle occupants Mrs Sellars and Mr Sellars received multiple injuries including three broken ribs and a head injury. A charge of reckless driving was brought against Cross.

County Tax Maps Near Completion

County Auditor Blythe Jones states the PWA driven tax map project is nearly finished. Draftsman R. E. Scales, added to the county payroll last Saturday, works for Engineer Carl Rush. The system aids county workers lawyers and landowners by locating property and preserving exact boundaries for posterity. The Courier promises a fuller report in a future issue.

Davis Couple to Celebrate Golden Wedding in Cincinnati

AAA Office Closed March 8 for Farm Program Meet

The AAA office will close on Saturday March 8 to attend a mass meeting of farmers at Chillicothe Ohio. The event launches the 1941 campaign for participation in the Farm Program. Drunken Driving Lands Two in Jail

Safety Patrolman Frank R. Perry arrested Walter Phillips of Harlan Kentucky on a drunken driving charge after his car collided with John Hartman’s parked vehicle on Water Street Batavia. Phillips and Bowman pleaded guilty with Bowman fined 50 dollars and costs 4.80 and ordered to pay Leonard 5 dollars for yard damage or spend 15 days in jail.
