Frank Powell aged 72 of Franklin township died last Friday after weeks of illness. He had lived in Batavia for several years and was buried Saturday in Batavia Union cemetery. A well known horseman in his youth, he had wide acquaintance.

State Pike resurfacing contract awarded to local firms
The Pringle Construction Co. and A. C. Pickelheimer won the five and one half mile Route 74 project from the Hamilton county line to near Olive Branch for resurfacing to a 20 foot width. The bid of 138000 plus was the lowest among several and the work should finish by October 1 1930. The award is described as the county's largest contract to local men.

Mortgage Renewal Records $45,000,000 Bonds in Hillsboro
In Highland county, the Baltimore and Ohio Southwestern Railroad renewed a $45 million mortgage dating from January 1, 1899. Filed Saturday by Judge J. Frank Wilson as attorney, the renewal extends to July 1, 1950. The bonds are The Southwestern Division First Mortgage Three and a Half Percent Gold Bonds, an issue of $1,000,000.

Burglaries Hit Two Batavia Businesses In One Night
Two Batavia business houses were burglarized last Tuesday night week with the Wood Restaurant in West Batavia entered through a rear window and $26 from the C. G. & P. Railroad and $17 from Wood’s cash taken, plus a cloak and two sweaters. The Rauscher filling station was also entered the same night, about $43 taken with bills hidden in a meter box and silver in a washstand.
