4-H Week Scheduled March 8 15 in Etene County

The 4-H week runs March 8 to 15 with mentees advisors and staff involved throughout the year. Members will wear 4-H pins and green and white colors. Exhibits include live animals projects demonstrations and a safety contest at Eastgate Mall the weekend of March 13 15.

Clermont County Real Society March Meeting in Batavia

The Clermont County Real Society will meet March 6 at 8 p.m. in Batavia library with the reading room open from 7 p.m. for research and discussion. The program covers cemeteries, locating information there, and records to create. A board meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. Participants may bring Bible gleanings from last month’s program for filing.

General fund totals 7.7 million with county appropriations around 32 million. Noted allocations include the Sheriff’s department and a building project at 1,261,288.47, plus insurance pensions and taxes at 1,115. Other general fund appropriations cover Executive board of commissioners 230,556 auditor 265,855 treasurer 229,469 prosecuting attorney 262,578 budget commission 96,325 and multiple courts with varying sums including probate 65,141 common 428,527 and coroner 53,736.

Bissantz bribery trial set for week of April 27

Former commissioner Harold Bissantz faces a five day bribery trial beginning Monday April 27 with Visiting Judge Rodney Love of Montgomery County appointed by the Ohio Supreme Court to preside. The case involves charges of bribery and related motions pass through county officials for sworn depositions as the court reviews several procedural matters.

Frisch's bonds aid motel complex project approval

Three businesses received industrial revenue bonds last week from the county. Deltec Inc. was approved for 400000 dollars to build a 10000 square foot Quality Inn motel and restaurant at I 275 and SR 32. No definite construction date was set, but the project could employ about 230 people. Frisch's has already spent around 400000 dollars on site work and engineering.

Maple sap tour near Clermont yields syrup lesson

Students tour a maple tapping area on steep Clermont hills learning sap flow and collection. Ditton demonstrates catching sap in a bucket as weather dictates flow length. Sap is boiled in an evaporator to syrup, roughly two and a half gallons of sap yielding one cup. Photos by Karen Chaney.

Batavia School Plans New Campus and Farm Purchase

Batavia school officials outline a six to ten year plan including a new hilltop campus west of Batavia. Superintendent Maddox announced the district will buy the Cliff McKay farm at 1546 Old SR 74 for about 1 million using Ford tax revenue.Enrollment is expected to rise from 940 to 1350–1600 over a decade with no local tax increases.

O Bannon sewer project faces delays and bids

The EPA awarded a $16 million grant for the O Bannon sewer project butSantoro said costs were higher. Bids of $22,154,038 received in March 1979 were high due to busy market conditions. O Bannon work began in 1973 after local petitions for sewerage.
