Rural electric rates cut for Clermont and Brown counties

Union Gas and Electric Company has cut rural electricity rates by ten percent affecting about 4000 customers in Clermont and parts of Brown counties. The reduction aligns with a broader rural rate cut ordered by the State Public Utilities Commission and follows U G and E's takeover of Southwestern Ohio Power Company.

Batavia Quartet Wins Moscow Amateur Contest Title

The Batavia Male Quartet won first place at the Moscow amateur contest for the second time, taking top honors in three county events. The quartet, also victorious at Bethel, features Edgar Ansteatt first tenor Oliver Bauer second tenor Al Schultz baritone and A H Lewis bass.

Federal funds won’t change Ohio pension setup

Wm Dowdney, chief investigator, says aid for the aged in Ohio remains unchanged under the National Social Security Act. The state will receive federal funds to aid pension payments, but pensioners will still get one monthly check from Columbus. The federal grant will match state spending, placing funds in a state account for ongoing payments.

Heavy first day tax collection tops county records

County Treasurer J. M. Fitzpatrick reports an unusually heavy first day in the delayed real estate tax collection with total receipts of 10 258 44, about 125 00 of which were for personal property. Delinquent real estate taxes reached about 4000 and 250 to 800 residents paid on day one. The collection period runs to April 30 with no extension. Taxpayers are urged to pay early to avoid a last minute rush.
